What's the difference between an X'Trapolis showing WELCOME TO METRO TRAINS and a Siemens showing Southern Cross and no announcements for the entire trip? As long as the sign on the front tells you where it's going and the cameras still work it shouldn't matter. If I had $1 for every Citadis I caught on the 109 without the internal signs working, I'd be a millionaire. Ditto to "Welcome to Grenda" on the 901 and 902 SmartBus (despite Ventura taking over and all).

I would, and I would find out in the usual way, by observation of the station signs and the network map.

it is a big difference: displaying the same station name for an entire trip is actively spreading misinformation, while displaying a promotional message is just visual noise.

What if you were travelling to Lynbrook? It's a bit hard for a tourist to make their way there when half the maps on the network don't show it and the train announcements don't work.

Well if you know Lynbrook exists, then chances are you already know where it is. While it would be great to be able to roll up in a totally unfamiliar city and have all the infomation you need provided by the system, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a little bit of research first.

I only speak on behalf of myself but recently, when I was in Sydney, I just found it more convenient to load up the CityRail site on my phone and look at the map on my phone, rather than climb over my bags and walk up to the end of the carriage frequently.

Does anyone know which Sunbury services in the late morning/ early afternoon are P class push-pull? I know about the 17:17 returning at 19:34, which others have push-pull? Not long now until they cease!! Sad

It is the 06:31 Southern Cross-Sunbury, and the 07:38 Sunbury-Southern Cross from memory.

Oh, and the 17:17 push-pull returns at 19:28.

Something along those lines happened when I was on the train recently. Old map. Got to Lynbrook and passenger wanted to go to Merinda Park. Train stopped and she was looking perplexed at map until I said "That is an old map, this is a new station, yours is next"

More than likely you'll get State and Local members showing up for a photo op...

I have no idea when/which train will be the "first" (with the MPs etc on board), however.

No ministers would pass up the opportunity to cut the ribbon and get their face on the TV/Local paper.

First train out of Sunbury is at 06:57 and first arrival is at 8:27. More likely the Ministers will rock up at Diggers Rest in the morning to catch the first down train to open the extension like they did for Craigieburn.
