Does anyone know which services are run by H sets during the week on the lines they run on? Also if you could include the loco type and configuration, eg push-pull, FSH, VSH etc.

Thanks for the set configurations, but does anyone know the exact service times and locos that haul them at those times - there used to be the Master timetable for these lines, but I can't find it anymore.

So are the 8:04 ex-Marshall and 8:52 ex-South Geelong no longer ran by H-sets?  Sad

Not sure what they returned as, I think the 8:52 (FSH) ran as the 16:17, but not sure about the VSH that ran the 8:04

I think sprinters might have run their last duties on the Geelong line as well as there has been a 3VL stabled where the 3  x sprinters are normally stabled.

The AM trip to South Geelong and back memtioned above has had the H set replaced by a cluster of Sprinters.

While we are on the subject of N sets, how much does an N class carriage weigh? Also how much does a power van used to power an n set weigh?

FN9 has returned from refurbishment looking brand new in the Spencer Street Yard today (24/12/12)

This leaves FN5 and VN18 only unrefferbished sets remaining.

Yes I seen FN9 running a test train last week.

SSH22, Graffitied after a weekend in Kyneton.

VN12, BTN268 back in service (E car).

FN13, still running without a wheelchair friendly BZN as BTN264 is running as D car.

FN9 was part of a double set on this morning's Swan Hill pass behind N461 and 474

Carriages out of service at the moment are BTN 259 - conversion ex BCZ 259 ,  (Part of VN 6) , BZN 267 ex FN 13   and BZN 272 ex FN 9 all awaiting bogie replacement - repairs.  FN 9 is running  presently captive as a 3 car set N 9 on Bendigo - Swan Hill shuttles due to RRL closure.
4 cars of Set VN 6 are  under exam at Newport, to be re united with BTN 259 once bogie repairs complete??

Some photos of 3 car N set N9, seems to be running 8319 a bit. So rare to see the once common three car sets now...

FN14 has also been reformed on 16-1-13 after being split for servicing.

FN18 was also seen running as FN18 rather than the normal VN with BZN258 out.

  SN7 Chief Commissioner

Today commenced the withdrawal from traffic of Z type carriages for bogie inspections,  3 BZN cars 262, 271 & 252 were taken off their respective N sets and taken to Newport for bogie work, cars BTN 251 & BZN 275 will follow.  there are no replacement cars available.

There are several 3 car N sets in traffic at the moment due to this, running on services in place of 4 car FN sets.

Z cars our of service due to bogie inspections and defects or waiting overhauled  bogies will be BTN 251, BZN 252 ,  BTN 259, BZN 262 , BZN 267, BZN 271, BZN 272, & BZN 275.

Is car 257 still in BCZ format?

Also, any news on when/if the rest of the N fleet will be consolidated into 5-car N-only (excluding Z car) sets?

I have not seen BCZ257 in quite some time. I think I read somewhere on here that it was about to be converted to a BZN car in the last few months.

Shame really. I quite liked my "free first-class".  Sad

How can this happen!?
Are the bogies done at Newport (EDi)? its not like this is a new problem with the mainline bogie the issue has been known of sins the Werribee incident. How can UGL turn around overland bogies in no time at all when VLPs stuff takes a lifetime. To that its not like they cant buildup fall-over bogies, the Z cars will run on both mainline and commonwealth sets. Just seems to be very poorly handled to me, lots of seats out. To the shortage maybe of the longer N sets I have seen H cars running both Geelong and Traralgon.

BCZ257 is till running as E car in VN6 (FN6)
  kuldalai Chief Commissioner

The Werribee issue with an ACZ on a Down Warrnambool Pass in WCR days was not to do with the age of the bogie frames, rather it was an issue of overheated wheels (tyres)  caused by the brakes being left on over considerable distance .
