I was on the train, having flown down from Sydney for the day (and a bit of the day before and after, due to the late arrival back at Melbourne making it impractical to fly down and back on the Saturday). I'd seen it advertised on the Steamrail Tocumwal trip last month, and was keen for another crack at the wonderfully restored 708 (the ex Ritz Rail/SAR K Car). It was a very long trip, but a fantastic trip all the same. The train staff kept entertaining the passengers despite how tired and worn out they must have felt, and there was even a few occasions for photos along the way, which was great. Not many of the photos turned out, mostly due to lighting, time constraints, etc, but it was good to be able to get off the train and stretch ones legs. I'm a huge fan of diesel trips, so I like to support them when possible, as they often don't have the same pulling power as steam.

Anyway, for those interested, here are the photos I took and retained. I shot the train at Southern Cross, Ballarat, Maryborough, Donald, Ballarat and Southern Cross. Plenty of opportunities! Click on the thumbnail to see larger photos.
