I'd like to add a NSWGR ACS composite carriage to my collection/fleet but I'mnot quite sure where to start.
I have some Lima MFE's without crownlights that I could kitbash, though I suspect I will need to find some extra doors from another model or kit. Alternately I've been looking at the various 72'6" carriage sides/ends/floors/roof that are available from Casula Hobbies. The Railcraft underfloor looks like a good base to start with, along with their urethane 3AG bogies, and then chop 'n' splice
Has anyone kitbashed or built an ACS before, or have used the Railcraft products in any kitbash and could provide feedback or help?
Brendan, first off, check you incoming emails.
Secondly, and in my opinion, there's nothing wrong with using the entire Lima MFE to give you an excellent ACS, or any other of the 72' 6" car for that matter. Alterations are mainly in the carbody, by the insertion of two extra doors, plus arranging and fitting those three single-spaced windows on that one side. Fine detailing then follows, but that applies to any kit or chopups.
There's nothing wrong with either the chassis or the bogies, although a change to wheels of your choice is advised. My entire fleet of mainline cars us the Lima chassis and re-wheeled bogies throughout.
