Looks a bit Northern Tablelands like - not sure whether Yarraford had a platform - Yarraford.

Yarraford did have a platform, and this was it.

Can you imagine getting off the mail there in the early morning in the middle of winter.

Yarraford was a bit of a long shot as I have only been through there once in 1977.

I do not have a suitable photo at present so open floor.

Thanks Spletsie,

I walked through the tunnel a good few years ago but I remembered it.

Where was it, even more years ago?

Hill Top?

Good guess but wrong.

There won't be too many guesses left, how about also including the logic behind the guess.

Time for a hint?

Yes, it is a NSW kilometre post.
Yes, it does read 114.
Yes, it is very overgrown.
And no, it has never been moved.

There are only a few possible locations for a 114 km post which has never been moved.

Hilltop was a fairly obvious one although it looks too well maintained to be on a line which has been out of service for that long as in it looks like it has had a coat of paint in the relatively recent past.

That said kilometer post are genarally not overgrown as thay stand close to the track and if they cannot be readily seen there is probably not much point to their being there in the first place.

I will hazard a guess at Wyee and you wanted logic so here goes.

I believe there were recently some sidings removed and while I am not familiar with Wyee it seems possible that the existence of sidings meant that the post had to be further from the main lines than usual, that the sidings may not have been maintained and become overgrown, and the kilometer post with them.

If it is not Wyee then at least I have eliminated another possibility!

That is another possibility eliminated.

Just because the paint looks good, doesn't mean it wasn't painted 28 years ago.
Kilometre posts do stand beside the track, and should normally be visible, but there are no train drivers attempting to view this one.
That leaves another 4 possibilities (or is that 5???).

If there are no train drivers trying to see this post it suggests a line not currently in use.

The other four possibilities still in use are roughly near Medlow Bath, Yerrinbool, between Mt Murray / Summit Tank, and Minnamurra.

The other lines which spring to mind near Sydney but abandoned are Camden and Kurrajong but neither was long enough to sport a 114 km post.

There is a possibility of a fifth but I do not know whether it ever boasted kilometer posts and that is the incomplete Maldon / Dombarton line.  It seems unlikely that they ever erected kilometer posts on a line that never had track or even a complete roadbed given that a tunnel and two bridges were missing but stranger things have happened and the builders would have needed some means of establishing their position.

I will play your silly game and take a guess at "somewhere" on the Maldon Dombarton line.  As to exactly where I do not know and even a guess would depend on which end they were planning to start the kilometerage from.

Edit:  A review of the feasibility study for the line conducted in about 2009 indicates that the kilometer measurements would be from the Dombarton end and that 114 would be a couple of kilometers north of the Avon Passing Loop.

So my guess becomes a couple of kilometers north of the proposed Avon Passing Loop wherever the hell in the middle of nowhere to the east of Lake Avon that happens to be.

I will take a wild stab ... 114 on Main West is about where the old oil siding was at Medlow Bath, that's about the only Archaeology I know there.
