Railway Archaeology: where is it? #2

We have a winner.

Maldon to Dombarton it is.

Strange indeed to have nearly ALL the km and half km posts, and in nearly new condition too.

I recently had the good luck to get into the Sydney Catchment Authority Restricted Area to have a look at this line (many hoops to jump through, but required for my day job).
Took a shed load of photos.

Over to you.

Thank you HairyLeg. As a non New South Welshman this was a very interesting wherrizzit with a very interesting answer so thank you to the winner for the explanation. But, I gotta ask, if my understanding of the answer is correct, distances in NSW, are they not all measured from Central.

As I understand it all distances are measured from Central but in this case not perhaps by the most direct route.

The Unanderra / Moss Vale line has distances measured from Central via Wollongong and the Maldon / Dombarton line was to have distances measured from the Dombarton end but those distances would have been the measurement from Central via Wollongong and Dombarton.  Thus 114 km would have been only a few kms from the Dombarton end but 114 km from Central.

On that basis the Maldon end of the line would have had km posts showing about 140 although the more direct distance via the main south would have been around the 80 kms mark.  Maybe it should have been called the Dombarton / Maldon railway.

The Stockinbingal / Parkes line is a similar case where it is about 620 km from Central to Parkes but only about 445 km via Orange.

Enough already.  Where is this?

Not sure precisely, but perhaps somewhere an XPT had to crawl along until Dr. Evil shut that line nearly a decade ago?

I tend to enjoy it when people supply their reasoning behind their attempts as that gives an extra forensic aspect to the game.

That's the one!

Dunno what it looks like now but that was it in 1996.  Even then it had a couple of holes in it where the planks under the Ballast had rotted away, not too sure I would be game to walk across it today.

Thank you 7334. It's been a long a long time between drinks. I used "Bridges Down Under" - Don Fraser &, of course, hairylegs' brilliant overlay.

This is a tough one so I'll give plenty of clues as nobody wants this to drag on.

It's a tramway & it is shown on hairylegs' overlay.

There was a bridge in the background to that sandbar bank. I've a 'photo of that I'll use as a clue if it isn't picked straight away.
