hi, I was wondering how many monorail vehicles operate the service (I heard it was 2 but im not sure) and what is happening with the planned extension of the monorail: (where was it going to be extended to)?

where is the track that came from the merry hill shopping centre in England and what is happening with it at the moment?

There's 2 monorails here, 1 at Seaworld (using tracks and trains originally from Expo 88 IIRC) and one at Broadbeach, linking The Oasis centre with Jupiters casino.  There was talk of extending the Broadbeach one long ago, but none lately.  At one stage they looked at putting in a stop at the new Convention Centre, and there has long been plans to extend it to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre, but none has eventuated.

Incidentally, the southern terminus of the new Gold Coast Light Rail (stage 1) is just after the line goes under the monorail, so hopefully a photo opportunity in the not too distant future.

The Seaworld Monorail was opened in 1986, it was certainly not the Expo System. I do believe one train is from the Expo '88 system though, don't know where the others and track ended up.

You will find some Merry Hill equipment near the monorail depot, one carriage has been added to each train to make it 5 cars a piece. Unsure as to where the other track and trains are, someone did mention to me something about monorail equipment being placed in shipping containers in the Gold Coast, but who knows where all the parts are.

Probably where many Monorails are now, scraped!

Edit: Following Expo, one of the trains and some track joined the existing Sea World Monorail System at Sea World on the Gold Coast. The other trains are running now at the Europapark in Rust/ Germany

well what has happened with the monorail extension to pacific fair and where is the most likely location for the merry hill parts to be located and where is the maintenance depot on the line?

You would think now would be a perfect time to extend the track by aquiring the parts from the Sydney monorail. It's all there for the taking, and probably dirt cheap too.

Is it compatible? Or would it be like trying to run a V-set in Brisbane.

Europark is on the border with France about half way between Luxemberg and Switz and still operating.

Thanks, I have spent ages looking for information on the Expo '88 Monorail and where it ended up, finally someone has added info as to where it was relocated to!

Broadbeach is a MkIII monorail as is the Sydney System. Both are compatible systems, so it wouldn't surprise me if Broadbeach got something out of the Sydney one.

You would have to enquire with the owners of the Monorail as to the current state of affairs re the extension.

The depot on the line is located at the shopping centre next to the shopping centre station. You can see it (and I think there are still some Merry Hill carriages) as you leave the station.
