7 NTAF fuel tanks have turned up at west kalgoorlie. i think they are going into the shell fleet( i could be wrong on this). anyone have any idea where these would have come from. i am assuming these may have been tanks that were used on the fuel trains in NSW but were made redundant when the fuel trains finished up over there.
thanks.

Would these be the ones formerly sitting in Enfield yard for a while?
  3981 Assistant Commissioner

Yeah they came from Enfield and owned by BP, have been told they will be stored for a while.

Thanks for that.
I have passed them a few times in the last month or so and wondered why they were laying around.

about a dozen or so ntaf wagons turned up in the west today on 2np3. we are starting to get a fair collection of these fuel tanks over here now. i assume that fuel trains are no longer running in NSW now so i suppose they might as well send them over here where a fair bit of fuel still goes by rail on the standard gauge.
cheers,
wal.

I have heard somewhere that WA had NTAFs in the past, however they were coded WTAF. Can anyone confirm?

Wal, it's been just over a year since we've had bulk fuel transported by rail here in NSW. Is the fuel in WA moved for Shell or Caltex?

Wal, thanks for the info mate. I recall BP used to stick a couple of wagons on the Dubbo train over here, although I'm not sure if Shell were using their own wagons (they were loading the fuel at the Shell gantry, certainly), or if they were indeed owned by BP. The BP wagons were often labelled "Inland Petrolium" on the side.

I noticed today that there is a NTAF (I think 6138) in Freight Australia Colours outside GEMCO at the moment. Is it possible someoneis looking to use these for in-line refeuling, or is there some other purpose?

There are around 20 ex NTAF's that have been in use in WA for a long time on the Perth toGoldfields Service. Most are still in service. Some have the black paint wearing off so you know for sure their origin.
Numbers are (All starting in A have been seen in the last 12 months, All starting in W were seen prior to ARG recoding in early 2000's)

I'm not sure the NTAFs would be suitable for inline refueling.. I've a distant memory they weren't the strongest wagons out there and some had more restrictive drawgear limitations than others.

Having said that, anything's possible.

Was any strengthening done to the VTQY's that were being used with the G class hauling the SCT trains?

I was told at work today that these wagons have been sold and 2 a week will be taken away by truck in the coming months. I am not sure if they are being sold for scrapping or sold to another company for use.

Those wagons were formerly owned by mobil and were mainly used to transport diesel to parkes loco depot for SRA/PN.They are fairly modern in that they are an underframe-less design.Be interesting to see where they end up,possibly going north to an iron ore railroad ?

So whats the story behind this NTAF at Gemco Rail back last year?

Looks like one of the shell tankers formerly used between clyde and dubbo, that went west to WA last year.Possibly going to be used for esperence-goldfields fuel traffic.
