I have not long got home but what a great day seeing up to 14 or so bodies from a variety of groups (Hobsons Bay, Geelong, Ballan, Sunshine, Rebel Free.mo, Melton Free-mo with Melton MRC members, having a good time, enjoying each others company,  running trains and trying out a lot of situations . Well done Adam for getting the day together, and Tim and Owen persisting with the standards and setting an example with your modules ...  I think Free-mo in particular and the hobby in general got a good rap today!

I wandered down on Saturday afternoon during the set up, the Free mo Au concept is clever and flexible enough to create a larger temporary layout in a shared community space, and this should be encouraged.

As for the wifi control using smartphones/tablets, I do use it at home on Victoria Street, but having the chance to run a few of my trams on a larger club layout with this technology shows how flexible JMRI is.

Thanks Adam and the crew at Melton, sounds like the club had a great day on the Sunday, it's a pity I missed it.
I look forward to the photos.

Thanks for that Trevor, was a great day, while a LOT of work and extremely hot in the clubrooms, it was good fun, it's always good to catch up with everyone, and of course, run trains all day! And it was great to have such a varied mix of groups represented in the room! Now there's no excuses for not doing work on my modules... Smile

I was surprised to see you turn up, Glenn, but I was glad to see you could make it, too! (Sneaky, you didn't let me know it advance! Laughing ) That's a big part of the Run Days, we can setup a large layout, temporarily, invite a heap of people to the clubrooms and have it up for a few weeks, run trains all day. Then we can pack it up and return to sharing the clubrooms. The only module we need to remove in between is the sloped 'transition' module from the Permanent MMRC layout to the Free-mo AU modules and lock the MMRC clubrooms.

JMRI and using phones/tablets was great on Sunday, we had probably 8 or so people controlling trains from NCE throttles, I had a tablet and many Android/iOS phones, too. Got a bit hectic running so many trains, but it really tested Free-mo AU, JMRI, the NCE 5A system and everyone's concentration levels... Very Happy
Any time, Glenn, you're more that welcome to come along and run the trams around the layout/Free-mo AU and come and visit any time. Ditto for anyone wanting to have a look at Free-mo AU while it is setup, too.

With the Run Day on the 24th such a big success, and the Free-mo AU extension still setup, the club will be hosting another Run Day on Sunday, 17th March, 2013. 10AM to 5PM.

Further details of the event can be found here: LINK

Let me know via email or a PM here at Railpage if you would be interested in attending on the 17th March!

We sure do!

We had the system working for the whole day, running the DCC locos, sound locos, even one with smoke!

If you can make it, we'll see you there on the 17th March. Very Happy

Just an update, our "Run Day" on the layout will be happening this coming Sunday, 10am to 5pm at the West Melton clubrooms (James Cook Drv, West Melton, look for the milk bar next door and turn onto the gravel road towards the tennis courts)

No worries, all good. Have a good one in B Box, then! Very Happy
We'll be there Saturdays, so any time is fine. We won't have all the Free-mo AU setup beyond this weekend, but I can always hook up JMRI, a couple of modules and the Power Pro system (that's usually the case every Saturday anyway... Smile )

Thanks for coming up and visiting, the trams certainly mixed up and added a lot more variety still to the running on the day! Apologies for the late reply, I've been really sick and basically out of action all through March, and just catching up on posts now.

Love the photos on the blog, too! However they do remind me just how much I really need to ballast the track and fix up the damaged track on my 4 modules! Laughing

A few photos of the trams roaming the layout are here: http://www.wolfpacfotos.com/index.php/MMRC-FreemoAU-Trams

After our Special General Meeting to vote for the adoption of the new Model Rules, part of the transition to AIR 2012, the members present (including just one proxy vote) unanimously voted to adopt the new model rules and AIR 2012.

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it on the day and voted at this important meeting!

At the risk of stealing Adam's thunder, I believe that Melton Freemo is running sessions on the third Sunday of the month till November at the Melton MRC club rooms but Adam can confirm that.

I would think that the regularity of the event is a good thing and gives the rest of you an opportunity to perhaps plan and visit the club. Of course we are also there Tuesday nights and (most) Saturdays barring club events elsewhere.

Cheers
