Another question without notice
I have about 10 Graham Farish locomotives from the 80s/90s - some are 5 pole, others not; and also one Minitrix 5 pole.
I have set out a loop of track, more of an oval really, 2m * .6m. Track has been cleaned with an abrasive track cleaner, then further cleaned with liquid track cleaner. Soldered power connector to the track and plugged in to a DC controller.
None of the locos run smoothly at slow speed, none can crawl at all. All perform well at an unrealistic speed however I have disassembled six locos, cleaned them, lubricated them, put them back on the track and ..... no change. I have used two different DC controllers - no change. Not talking about jerking from poor pickups etc, just unable to run slowly....
On the other hand, running "modern" (bought with the last two years) Gopher locomotives, Kato and aust-n-rail (Atlas chasis I guess) is an absolute joy, with smooth running from low speeds, excellent crawling etc.
So....it is time to ditch the old locos (if so, they will be here an/or FleaBay soon)? Will "modern" versions run better and if so, why (some old ones are 5 pole, so that can't be all there is to it)? Can something be done to make them run better/slower (remember, have reassembled and cleaned and checked contacts), DCC?
