44's all going into Storage over the coming weeks/months.Obviously so. As for simple things they seem to make the simple minded happy. For one they are probably not very OH&S friendly not being air conditioned. Is not QUBE part of P&O which hardly a company skint for cash. Maybe the old clunkers were OK to get things up and running but now they are probably hopelessly inadaquate. Maybe QUBE want to get in early before pollies bring in draconian air pollution laws once they realise this old junk is getting around. I am not a great fan of the 44 class and variants, they are hardly a patch on an ALCO FA in looks. Mind you I like to see a restored RTM etc 44 getting around on a heritage run as much as anybody else but I am not going to cry in my beer if QUBE AMEX them.
Cheers
In the last few days, 4461 has vanished from the siding at Minto. Does anyone know if it's off to have new wheels? If so, are they likely to give it a new paint job?Hi Nick, check a few posts up - 4461 has been relocated into more permanent storage in Goulburn, along with most of her sisters.
I'm not 100% sure about the numbers, but 3 loco's were on their way to Goulburn for storage this arvo. I presume it's 4488, 4471 and possibly 4717. So I'd say that's it for the 44s in commercial service. It could also include 4498, which has been in storage at Cooks River for a while now.
4717-4488-4471 ran on T250 as late as Wednesday, July 17th. Unfortunately, all locos faced the port, so the only pictures with a 44 leading were with the rear cab forward on the return to Minto (T251).Thanks for the extra info - I did get shown a photo of the l/e movement to Goulburn, 4488 leading 4471 and 4717, as you say, all backwards.
I got a few photos of them around Moss Vale on Monday, will post them when I finish uploading them (and the rest of the Sydney holiday photos) later today. Here they are:
