I am after info on the Ozzy Coat of Arms attached to GM class engines,  mainly dimensions , degree of curvature if any, were they stamped with engine numbers & location of mounting holes for fitting .  Any Pics would be welcome also. What rough $$ price would one expect if purchasing .

Wally,

Just checking the plate on GM3 from a 1975 photo, it appears to be maybe 50mm narrower than the nose door. It is curved to fit on the nose door.

There are four bolt holes not regularly located. Two holes evenly spaced each about 75mm in from the widest point, one just above the sheild next to the emu's neck and another next to the edge at the bottom under the kangaroo's toes.

This plate had the letters "CR" removed when the loco was relettered for Australian National in 1975.

As to price: there were 47 GMs, 17 CLs and 8 ALs fitted with the plates, one per loco. I think there are a lot more railfans than that number who want them.

So if someone wants to sell one they can name their price.

There were similar (but not identical) plates on the passenger cars, but they lacked the letters "CR" (or "ANR" on the ALs) under the crest since the cars had separate letters "C" and "R" either side of the oval.

They didn't have the number on the front of the plate but they might have been marked on the back.

Thanks for that M636C,  I now can rule out a GM , The 1 I have has 2 holes in line with the line on which the Roo & the Emu are standing on , there are no other mounting points, there is no ANR or CR or numbers etc  on the engraving also , there is a bow in the centre of the plate of approx. 3 cms  outwards from the edges .  Any ideas ???

The NSU seemed to have a coat of arms with just two holes, but they might be above the line on which the emu and roo stand.

Having said that, I don't think the NSU would have bow of 3cm between the edges of the plate.
