Agreed. What these sellers don't realise is that for every potential buyer they attract by using such roundabout terms, they probably put off just as many. As the previous poster proved, pointing out the error of their ways, just generates a WGAS response.

Click on "Listing practices", "Search and browse manipulation" and "Misusing a brand name". Ensure the reporting is fair, and ebay should confirm the item being listed complies with their policies.

I expect ebay will ignore most reports as it hurts their bottom line to have integrity, but rules are rules.

Yeah i did the same almost 4 days ago. And yes you guessed it eBay did nothing about it. Was even more peeved since i had something listed that was Aussie outline that did suit traino, auscision etc but mine got kicked. This wasn't even remotely suited.

Good if no one complains nothing gets done, you might get called a whinger or worse but you are right it should be listed under the brand name of the model for sale, not that it suits some other brand. If a person cannot get any info about these models from the internet these days they should not be on Ebay in the first place buying stuff. You check it out then you buy it, not buy it blindly.

Also he stated that his friend was downsizing a likely suck in story, I have heard better though. I would not buy something from anyone on E Bay not even if I was desperate, you never know what you might get in the end, some have got just that nothing as well.

Overall, I am a very satisfied ebay buyer.....but I now try to shy away from selling via ebay because of their high fees and their policy of making Paypal a MUST option (which everyone selects....so you pay Paypal's bloody fees as well!!!)

I note on another site that T class locomotives that were sold with questionable weathering and sold cheaply, the first one is already up on EBay the very same day the exhibition was already on, for a bit more that the price they paid at the exhibition for it as a starting bid. Changing Era's most likely that quick, I don't think so and if he did not want it to start with why buy it in the first place. The more likely excuse is, I will buy one and put it up on EBay for more than the RRP that I got it for and see if any suckers will take the price up. Unfortunately they will though. These are the kind of things that get most peoples lather up.

I have no problem with a genuine sale on EBay if the price goes up to more than what it really should be though, as it simply means someone wants it at any cost. But these ones that buy up some models simply to make a quick buck from some unsuspecting modeller, really make your blood boil at times. I am not against making a profit but just against the way some do it though.

Once again, at the risk of coming across as a "soft touch", I find myself disagreeing with you a bit.

One of the things that irks me is when manufacturers release a limited-run model, only available at an exhibition. That makes it extremely difficult for interstate modellers (I live in country SA) to acquire some of these "one-off" models.

Therefore, I consider the bloke who buys some of these models and then immediately lists them for sale on ebay or elsewhere with a marked-up price, is actually doing people like me a great service, for it gives us a chance to buy a model we might otherwise have never had the opportunity to acquire.

Okay, so he makes a profit and it cost me a few more dollars than what he paid.......still likely to be much cheaper than it would have been for me to drive all the way to Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane etc just to buy the model. After all, nobody is twisting my arm to pay HIS asking price; it is purely my decision if I decide to buy. He is possibly taking a risk, just like any other re-seller, that he has bought a product that he cannot sell and then he is stuck with it and either keeps it for himself or sells it down the track for a loss (unlikely though that may be).

Mate never let the facts get in the way of a good whinge!

Not having a whinge at all, all of those buyers are indeed paying what they are happy (or unhappy) to pay, but they are definitely paying the price for not getting in earlier and buying directly.

Just not so sure that those people buying these things purely for re-selling are "doing those people a favour who miss out first time around" that's all. If the models bought purely for re-selling weren't bought, then others could buy them at the normal price still!

Delays aside, this is why the pre-ordering the model you really want is still a good idea I think, saves having to pay up the bot-bot if they sell out and you are at the mercy of the auction style sale.

The on sellers make up for the fence sitters and the wishers (the gunners) .
As Poath said on face book about the GHAN AN "only 30 left I should by the lot and on sell them" somebody will make a killing . Ive paid top dollar for some models that now are on sale ,the 44 for instance If I wanted to sell mine ,4 id be lucky to get $400 for the 4 but I paid well over $1k for them.
So who ever bought excess 44s to on sell them has lost big time. It works both ways.

The one I was commenting on had a starting bid $40 over the price he had actually paid in the expectation that it would go way up. I don't mind a model starting at 99 cents and then going haywire price wise that is only the idiots bidding on it that do not know when to stop. However starting a sale at over the price that you paid in the first place is just pure greed to me, but if others see it differently then so be it. But I will wait and I will most probably be able to buy the same thing secondhand which these items are being resold, there is no warranty on a secondhand model even if it has not been taken out of the box. The warranty is only for the original purchaser, so that puts me off to start with. If it packs up just after removal from a box what can you do nothing really unless you want to spend good money taking someone to court if you can locate them, most are a PO box or something in these cases and anyone can get one without too much fuss. We have one such case already of a manufacturer being hard or nigh on impossible to contact so what hope does one really have against a fly by night type of operation. Also how does one know that it will not burn your fingers, all to easy to palm off a stolen anything really on E Bay.

I can see your point Roachie living out in the bush almost, but you could buy direct and even with postage save a bit of money. This is what I would do in your situation anyway. You order it and send the money and they post or courier it to you which ever method they use. I have ordered things from interstate and had no problems at all even 300 Scalpel blades coming through the post from Melbourne. Simply because I could not get them from a local supplier who was out of stock of the particular blades that I wanted.

Its quite funny watching the reaction from others once a loco goes for a big price. Considering it went for $600+ which is a nice healthy profit - if you have a spare you will be laughing.
BUT - a re-run should not be that far away so it will be interesting what actually pops up on ebay before then.

I missed out on one of the candy 422's - bought it for a bit more than the original retail price but absolutely no regrets but only for not pre-ordering it in the begginning.

The GHAN NR's were commanding some good $$$ for a while there but have settled more lately.
Auscision A66 in Olympic colours seems to be the winner at the moment!!
