It's Thursday morning & I just passed Wayville station on a Belair line train.
As per Bill D's night shot, the daylight scene looks like Wayville station is all set to receive the Show trains.

- Eastern side platform is surfaced & platform edges have been painted
- Fencing etc. is installed on the ramp & steps.  Some of it looks temporary, but solid enough
- Temporary lighting with loudspeakers installed on the eastern platform.
- Big marquee-type shelter in place at top of access ramp (no shelter on platform itself)
- Big red "Show Shuttle" gateway thing in place on Platform 1 at Adelaide, same as previous years.

Adelaide Metro website is now advertising the Show Shuttle trains.
15 minute frequency from Adelaide 8.30am to 11.15pm.
Down journey (to Wayville) takes 6 minutes, up journey (to Adelaide) takes 12 minutes.

Yes, I think a couple of early posters are eating humble pie about now, of course, they will deny any negative attitude.

I passed that way on Monday and thought there was a snowball's chance in hell of it being in a usable state by Friday, but congratulations to those involved!

The service has been established.

Any reports on patronage?

Full marks to the transport boffins for pushing through with it. It seems like we now have some people that want to run trains and may even know what they are doing. Well done!

According to the departure boards, the name of the station is Showgrounds Central

That's just used every year for the RAS and youll probably find that when the station does open officially near the end of the year it will be called Wayville

Well I did notice that trains had to turn back just south of the platform when i went to the show which added a few minutes to the return trip.

I noticed this caused confusion among passengers because I remember when I was coming back from the show on Wednesday the train briefly continued on the Noarlunga down track and some people actually though the train was heading to Belair/Noarlunga. Since platform 2 at Wayville is not operational the driver is forced to switch tracks at the crossover south of the Wayville station causing confusion among the RAS commuters its either that or decrease the frequency of the show trains to 25-30 minutes.

Well done to the department for getting things pushed through in time for the shuttle service to operate, it just goes to show anything is possible if the will to get it done is there.

Hopefully this push to get one platform active won't cause much of a delay to the completion of the whole station. It would also be good if the department's person responsible for getting butts into gear for the Wayville station could also start applying the same pressure to the teams working bankers' hours on the Goodwood underpass and electrification projects!

Did they not have an audio announcement on departure to reassure people of that? That's not just a customer service* issue, it runs the risk of a passenger getting anxious and making a perfectly reasonable use of the emergency brake handle.

* to get a customer service ethic at Adelaide Metro would require issuing a tender for the importation of expertise from overseas.

Nope there was no LED audio announcement or driver announcement the rail car continued on the down Noarlunga Track switch to the Noarlunga Up track at the crossover only then when the train stopped and the train driver switch to the other end of the train the passengers realized it was just switching tracks.

A photo taken Friday afternoon 16.30.  I saw a couple of trains arrive and depart with about 25-30 passengers per service.  Passengers were held at top of ramp until arivals cleared from platform.

The clanger being ... ?

The photos below taken on Saturday at Wayville show that
(a) new signals have been installed on the Seaford line including signal 413, a single aspect (fixed red?) on the Down Seaford opposite Maple Ave and and signal 412 with single feather (only to Up Seaford and not Up Belair)
(b) the access mound over the Seaford lines to the island platform has been removed.

These suggest a shuttle service to the Wayville down platform is planned.  The Royal Show 2013 map http://www.adelaideshowground.com.au/public/download.jsp?id=5662 shows a single platform rail station adjacent to the Dog Pavillion (ie the site of the Down Seaford platform).

Can anyone tell me what has happened with Signals 412 and 413 in the first 2 photos of this post since the show has finished and the signal gantry has now gone up? Is 413 still single aspect?
Does 412 still only have the one feather to go from Seaford Down to Seaford up or has the signal been replaced and installed on the gantry and have feathers for both Seaford and the Belair line?

26th of October 2013 - the rather artistic pedestrian bridge for the new Wayville station is being assembled in the works yard on the eastern side of the corridor just south of Keswick bridge.

In the first photo it's visible amongst the trees to the left of shot:

For cost effective use of materials and energy I like the old Keswick footbridge better.

What a waste of money!
