    Location: Yarra Glen
    Next Friday's episode (March 2nd) of the new ABC TV show "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" is titled "Murder on the Ballarat Train".  I saw the trailer for it the other night, and there was a brief scene of what looked like SRV cars at Southern Cross.  There was another shot of a piece of track which was definitely not the Ballarat line.  There is a write up of the episode in today's Sunday Age, which says in part:  "...the period is meticulously evoked" [set in Melbourne about 1930]  "...the old steam train is a delight but never becomes the star...".

    Could be interesting, even if you don't like Agatha Christie style murder mysteries, and if it is "meticulous" then you would expect the train scenes to be correct in every detail (watch out for concrete sleepers and LED signals).  Friday at 8.30 pm on ABC1.

    Thanks for that.  I guess I was fooled by the fake "Spencer Street" sign, and in the brief clip I saw, it looked real.

    A bit off topic but of interest - a recent episode of Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries was filmed at the Spotswood Pumping Station -& the pumps were even operating

    I believe that the production was centred around Alexandra Street, St Kilda, alongside the cemetary. Some of the station scenes were done at Hawksburn.

    If it's clear from television footage of the platform that signals use LEDs, does that imply that they also used a station on the Burnley Group or Clifton Hill Group?

    Hard for me to pick which station it is, but it certainly drew my eye when watching the episode!

    Wow, I am not sure if you are Trolling us or if it really happened, curiously I am going to look it up now.

    Edit: Hmm, It does actually occur. Not sure of the station though

    That's either a REALLY thin platform and you'd have confused passengers clinging to a tiny platform to stay behind the yellow line, or that train they're showing the interior for is actually rolling along the platform itself! LaughingLaughingLaughing

    It's meant to be a train from NY to Long Island. At least the interior looks the part. The show is filmed in LA.

    It does look like Lily's train has beached itself on the platform. Can anyone recognise the station?

    Different windows, and the back of the seats seem very high, and seem to face the same way.

    They're not using Melbourne trains, they're using a train set built on a soundstage somewhere with a blue screen out the windows, and compositing any old train footage in behind it. It just so happens that the footage is from Melbourne.

    It does surprise me though because there must be more stock of trains shot in New York that would actually be location-accurate than there is Melbourne stock, but television is weird like that.

    Think about it: they're not going to drag the relevant cast to Melbourne and then find a crew and a train and shoot it all just for a minutes of passing importance in one episode, just as they're not going to take an old Hitachi to LA to shoot with it.

    Also it's a Connex-liveried Comeng, and I doubt that the brand-new episode was shot in Melbourne in the beginning of 2010.

    If you click on the link on Simbera's original post on the topic, you will see a different picture, clearly identifiable outside the window of the train is an Alstom Comeng in Connex livery.

    The Hamptons are a popular Long Island destination ( by train ) and someone in Los Angles could have searched for "train to Hampton" ending up with Hampton , Melbourne instead of The Hamptons ( which are actually Hampton Bays , Southampton , Bridgehampton East Hampton )

    I like the theory, but if it was Hampton you'd be able to see the footbridge in the shot.

    I saw How I Met Your Mother last night as well and assumed it was a real train in the USA (I should have looked closer).

    So this morning I searched for Connex in the USA and all I got was Connex in Boston (owned by Veolia).

    So next I checked here and now after looking again I can see it's a Melbourne Comeng. I still can't work out what station it is.
    As I am down Mornington I don't get the trains as much as I used to so the Frankston line is what I see mostly and I know the Hurstbridge line well from my younger days.

    The train Lily's on is going to (the fictional) Farhampton so that would make a lot of sense, actually.

    It could be the Down platform shown, hence no footbridge?

    Am taking this as a bit of fun to work out the station involved - be interesting to see if we can

    Couple more thoughts below :

    I feel the Hampton footbridge may be shown in the photo - have added a triangle showing it's outline

    At the top is a dark rectangular(ish) area which could be the underside of the footbridge and the steps lead down behind the trees along the sloping side of the rectangle

    The area is fairly washed out by light

    However the trees do seem a bit more than Hampton has in that area ( angle or shrubs since removed ? )

    Mount Waverley has concrete slab platform facing while Hampton is brick (?) - I feel the photo looks more like brick

    Something that should be noted in the Mount's favor, is that along the platform you can see square burgundy steel tubes holding up the platform roof, as you can also see one in the picture on the right side train window, yet on the picture above of Hampton it is missing them with extended beams from the main building coming outwards to hold the roof.
    (Unless there is a second Platform at Hampton with a Building that matches, I only have this picture for reference http://www.vicrailstations.com/Sandringham/Hampton/Hampton1.jpg)

    So I would say it is more likely Mount Waverly or another station with a similar building.

    Yes! I knew I wasn't seeing things; my better half thought I was nuts, but I will now show her I wasn't! (though, in doing so, I may prove I'm nuts by my dedication to such triviality!)
