in answer to the question by andrew1996 it is the muck which comes off the wheels of any other locomotives and wagons which are coupled to the front of the locomotives ie brake shoe dust mud and any other thing that might be on the railway line.

Looks suspiciously like a level crossing just south of Pingaring....You know your tracks too well! It is indeed a level crossing just south of Pingaring. I was there to photograph wildflowers and chanced upon a train loading at Pingaring. And on the way out there I chanced upon another train loading at Corrigin. Seldom have I been that lucky.
