Coal train from Callide?

Hi,

Does anyone know if the coal train from Callide coal mine is still running? I thought it's but someone told me otherwise.

I think this train drops coal off one of the power stations and for export.

Thanks.

Well there you go, you learn something new everyday. I didn't even know there was a balloon loop at Callide mine. I always thought that the mine operated purely to supply coal to the next door power stations. But a quick look on Google Earth clearly shows the corridor. However, it also shows that is appears not to have been used for quite a while. It looks like the track has been lifted. However, I am not absolutely certain. Others with greater knowledge will probably correct me.

I thought I read somewhere that the Callide mine is still exporting coal. Perhaps they are trucking it somewhere in the absence of the track.

I am pretty sure that the track is still in place........I personally haven't worked a coal train out there for well over 2 years and I am not current on the road. Callide can be on and off at times but I am not sure if any trains are currently coming out of there......rarely get out on the Moura Short Line anyway as I spend most of my existence on the Blackwater system.

As far as I know Callide Mine loads (or use to) at two loops, Boundary Hill and Callide, so if the Boundary Hill branch is still in use then that should be Callide coal even if the Callide loop is out of use. The mine produced 7.7 million tonnes 2010/2011 but I haven't found any stats for last year.

At least you have been out there!!!

While I was learning the road to Moura, Callide trains appeared to only run when Boundary Hill was having a shutdown. It may be coincedence, but that is what I observed. Boundary Hill Branch is still very much in use. Normally head end trains bound for QAL come from B/Hill.

Apparently, the Callide mine got flooded pretty bad early this year and have been struggling since. Not sure if it's been fixed up and running normal now, but if no trains or fewer trains are coming out from there, I guess it might still be having issues.

That's great, thanks. These lines are still there, I presume? I note that the pictures were taken back in 2007?
