"BJECA Objectives and Strategies
Busselton Jetty Railway House

BJECA, in conjunction with the City of Busselton, proposes tobuild a purpose built building - Railway House. It is intended that Railway House will incorporate a world-class culturalheritage exhibition and marine discovery centre. It is envisaged this initiative will be an attraction to the local community and visitors whilst  providing added vibrancy, culture, information and excitement to the Busselton Jetty Foreshore. Railway House will accommodate operational facilities from both
the Interpretive Centre and existing train shed. The Ballaraat Steam Locomotive will also be relocated into this new community facility. The building will be  designed using sound environmentally sustainable principles in accordance with the City of Busselton’s Foreshore Master Plan Design Guidelines.

Jetty Train New train designed
The current train and carriages are over 30 years old. It is prudent to plan for its replacement within the next 3 years. A new train will remedy the constraints of the current design in terms of operational issues and provide improved passenger and driver comfort. The project will provide opportunities to assess incorporation
of improved wheelchair access and new communication and operational technology.

Railway House will include:
• A new marine discovery facility including a touch pool;
• A theatre and cultural heritage exhibition area for education and display purposes;
• Overnight stabling of  the train and carriages, train maintenance equipment and retail storage.
• Relocation of administrative offices from the Interpretive Centre, and provision of a small meeting room;

• Relocation and expansion of the cultural heritage exhibition from the Interpretive Centre;
• Relocation ofthe oldest remaining Australian built steam locomotive, the historic 1871 Ballarat Steam Locomotive, from Busselton’s Victoria Park. This will  provide a greater level of security and weather protection for this community asset."

It would be really cool if that restoration work involved returning it to operating condition.  Imagine Ballaraat steaming out onto the jetty!
I wonder if Busselton is regretting the removal of the railway to Capel?

...I wonder if Busselton is regretting the removal of the railway to Capel?
Busso to Nannup would have been a nice scenic run for a tourist railway.
But tying in to Boyanup museum would have also been good.

So much potential lost, with the lack of foresight.
