Just to let you know that our "Wheelwiz" wheelset weathering jig will be released for sale on Ebay over the weekend...

All details and pictures etc are available to view on the Laser Rail Bits... Facebook Page.

This jig has been designed by modellers for modellers...to give the utmost ability to reach all aspects of the wheelsets easily for painting and weathering.  It has also been designed and manufactured right here in Australia.

Presently the jig is only available to hold 10.5mm wheels ( 36" )...but after initial release we will gauge reaction and any feedback to see if we need to release to other wheel diameters.  Or we may offer a combination jig with at least two sizes in the one jig...

The fences will see the light of day at some stage...Laser Rail Bits ( as stated many times on the blog ) is a part time business that has to fit in around an income producing larger business.

In addition to the 10.5mm jig, I would have thought a 9.5mm wheel weathering jig would just about cover 99% of rollingstock. A lot of freight uses 33" wheelsets.

I'd buy both, or a combination jig to do the two sizes.

Thanks for your input...We had to start somewhere and a great deal of thought went into inclusions with the jig.  I found here that 99% of my rollingstock were fitted with 10.5mm...

As the jig will hold 8 wheelsets, we thought about providing 4 slots for 10.5 and 4 slots for 9.5
but figured that if a modeller had the same ratio as I did...then they would feel they had paid for something they were not going to use 50% of.

We decided to go with the 10.5mm in the first release and then see firstly if they were of interest to
modellers and work from there...

The jig is designed to be easily disassembled for maintenance and the wheelset holding fingers are interchangeable...so this enables us to supply differing sets of fingers while not requiring the owner to purchase a new jig...

Time will tell and we may even look at "custom" sizes.

Just wondering and bear in mind I have not seen the thing apart from photos on the Farcebook page.

How about those who want to weather 9.5mm wheels use tyres half a mm thick around the circumference?  That should make them fit in the holes for 10.5mm wheels.  Perhaps fine masking tape might even work as tyres.

What I couldn't find on FB was how much to buy the machine.  Is it available from people like Gwydir Valley Hobbies?  Should ask Warren I suppose.

Aussie modellers are a resourceful lot and I would imagine that some will not concern themselves with extra finger sets and do exactly what you have said.  In saying that it is our intention to make variable diameter jig components to make the frustrating job of painting wheelsets that much easier... but as the previous posts have alluded to...we had to start some
where.

As for price they are $24.50 complete and come with instructions and hints etc.

Presently they are available on ebay and I will put a link to our ebay store on the facebook page...It is included in earlier posts...but you are correct we erred on price and a recent ebay link.

Gwydir as yet do not have stock until we see if the product has "legs".  As per the Facebook page we have had an unexpected purchase of a fair quantity from overseas and this has thrown our anticipated first up manufacture into disarray... A very pleasant start to sales...but nonetheless a flurry here of manufacturing is now underway.
