Despite all of MGH's hard work the service seems to be degrading again with many time outs when loading pages.

Did some database tuning last night for a while.  The bulk of the database will now fit into memory (i do need to do another restart) so that should speed things up.  The area of the forums appears to be the slowest.  There are a lot of temporary table writes to disk which is slowing up the response times.   Michael, these need primary keys to make it faster so the database does not need to build a lot of temp tables.

Overall, it is running better in some respects.  Moving forward i intend and have just purchased a dedicated DB server for production in sydney.  I will arrange for this to be configured and I will ship to the DC so we can separate production/database onto different metal.

It's definitely faster but still ponderous when a TRN link to a forum post is clicked taking 15 - 30 seconds to open the linked page and at least that to then open a page from the forums via the "Correspondence - New Forum Posts" link.

Seems to be better, once the initial loading is done. Still takes a while to get the page to load up in the first place. I'll have a look when I'm back home and see what the URL is, can't remember it off the top of my head. A couple of them take about 800+ms each to load (100/2.4 connection). Slower still at work (50/50) but proxied and shared a LOT...

Another odd issue I've noticed twice now is the URLs in posts being truncated and missing the  , then the link becomes a subfolder of the RP domain. Especially the case with URLs lacking www at the start, ie http//wolfpacfotos.com VS http//www.wolfpacfotos.com

EDIT Ah ha! The semicolon character is not coming up, it's getting removed once I hit the submit button.

Yep, the RTE has ben breaking some links in this and other ways for some time.

Also, I'm still getting ~38s page generation times for topics in forums.

At first (linking from a TRN) it's slowish to load, about 30sec; but if successive links from TRNs are used, it's much quicker, like about 5sec, as if Railpage & my compy have assimilated with one another. However, if my next link is to a site other than Railpage, the subsequent Railpage connection will be as slow as the initial one, then picks up again as described above.

Also the "Latest Forum Posts" section on the Home page is not loading - even after a couple of reloads.

Using FF 25.0.1

As ever, Michael, Brian & co., keep up the good! Smile

It's still there, don't you worry about that... If you like, we can increase it just to make sure you know it's still working? Wink

Most improved! Does take a little while to respond while linking from TRNs.

And colons are still being truncated from links and smilies.

It is getting better.  A lot of time and effort has gone into this release.  Michael's work together with the rest of the team has been inspiring.

Note the livery page has an issue also.

Brian
