    "The train driver was cleared of any wrongdoing." No mention if the truck driver was charged, seems to be a recurring theme.

    Reminiscent of Hixon in the UK which was vastly worse but the same cause, grounding of the float (as stated in the bulletin). At Hixon, the truck driver assumed the police escort would call the railway, the police assumed the truck driver would stop and call. I was taking long sections over level crossings after that as humps are too common.
    At Banyo, is there a notice instructing drivers of abnormal loads to contact train control? Was there a police or other escort and were the responsibilities defined?

    Responsibility rests with the driver to know his load, his trailer and his route. Yet the media keeps blaming the level crossing.

    The problem is giving people with single digit IQ's a driving license for a heavy vehicle.
    They're not driving trucks because they have University degrees people.

    Can anyone explain why the train driver waited until 130 meters from the truck to apply the emergency brake.(AS REPORTED BY CHANNEL 7 NEWS)

    The approach to Banyo station is dead straight track on level ground.

    Having not read the accident report I was wondering why the driver did not try and stop the train sooner.

    I (and many other I met or drove with) still drove road trains after graduating from civil engineering. Simple thing is - the money is still much better driving than working as a professional engineer (the time away from home isn't though, which is why I stay employed as an engineer still).

    There are numpties everywhere, but they usually occupy only a small proportion of any demographic you might wish to denigrate.
