I honestly don't think you are going to see thousands of people standing on that platform all at once though. If the patronage at other station's on the line is anything to go by.

If the patronage at other station's on the line is anything to go by.Certainly not on that platform which would see the vast majority of use by people tipping out of trains at the end of a home-bound return leg of a journey and heading straight to the exit, just like the narrow southbound platform at Seaford Meadows. It doesn't need a huge amount of space for waiting passengers, just a token functional shelter and good exit routes.

Time for an update, work is trickling along. There are footings at the up end but not much sign that anything is going up on them just yet. There is a TSR20 at the site so the stop should have a minimal effect on the timetable.

I still think that the down platform could have been built the other side of the road though so that a stopping train does not hold up traffic on Cheltenham Parade for very long. As it is a wheelchair or something is going to take a while to get on or off and get the train moving again. Yeah I know it happens else where, but it could have had this done there after the pulled the Racecourse platform down on that side. Would be a lot less frustration for motorist using Cheltenham Parade.

It should be also noted that the Cheltenham Pde level crossing is getting traffic lights added for a pedestrian controlled crossing across Cheltenham Pde on the north side of the line.
It appears that the crossing traffic lights will be intigrated with the newly installed traffic lights where the new road leads into the St. Clair development.

Last Friday when I went through both ways on the train it looked to be only minor work needed and then it can be officially opened most of the hardware etc is in place and only a few handrail sections needed to be installed by the look of it. So it might be not far off the official opening one hopes anyway.

DPTI mentioned on their site the station would not be incorporated into the train timetable till 2014 meaning this station wont be operating till next year

By that time they will have to repaint it, as it will get vandalised just sitting there doing nothing, it is bad enough when a station is used though and gets graffitied.

In comparisome to the construction / rebuild of other stations in recent years, this one went up fairly quickly - god job to those concerned. However, I was wondering if it could be transferred to Torrens Park (as this is in pretty poor condition) once the OH line is converted to a tram line?!!!!!!

I agree with you there redhen. Torrens park is a real shocker along with glenalta and pinera, platforms are too low, too narrow and lacking descent shelter!

I agree with you there Mclaren but i do think if Torrens Park is shut down it will affect students attending the local private school there due to limited bus services. also with clapham still being closed and likely to be demolished then a drop in patronage on the hills line will then result so a station upgrade is the best option.

I struggle to see the logic in saying that it would be a good thing to downgrade people from a station with a poor shelter to no station at all.
Torrens Park is more than acceptable for the job it does, there are many bus stops across the Adelaide Metro network which would be more deserving of having money spent on upgrades than that rail station.

I just think with all these upgrades going on across the network, its embarrassing to see a bus shelter and some sheet metal to make the platform higher.

Oh and while we are almost at Woodville the level crossing on Woodville Road is also getting traffic lights installed on it they were putting them up at the end of last month, as I was there waiting to catch a train.

It is ridiculously close to Mitcham.

In actual fact the station that was there in the first photo was actually the original Cheltenham Station, the original racecourse station is were Saint Clair station is now almost and was simply a siding off, of the mainline this lasted well into the 1950's before it was lifted though. When the Island platform at Stroud Street was built in the 1950's sometime then what was Cheltenham Station became the Cheltenham Racecourse station and only used when the racing was on at Cheltenham. I can still remember the pedestrian subway there and the original buildings as well, but only just!

Landscaping appears complete, paving looks complete, indicators are lit and working. Only thing missing is a ped crossing at the south end, though locking gates are in place. Can't be long now.
Also all the landscaping is getting a very good watering and drain testing is in progress.

St Clair station begins passenger services the same day the Seaford extension begins public service which is the 23rd this month.
