Lift from street level to station

Hi

I have this vague memory in my mind, that near one of the stations (Town Hall?) there used to be a lift at street level, which was closed, but which I assumed went down to the station. Can't seem to find any such thing any more. Am I simply dreaming, or did such a thing exist? What happened to it?

Thanks
Simon
