A station that had two through passenger platforms, lost one, then regained it.
It lost a "through" platform for many years but gained a "dead-end" platform in its place.  The overall platform count nor configuration did not change during this transition.

Would it be by any chance a location starting with the letter A?

If it is, then it might not be the one you're thinking of.

Lalor ?
  retromelb Chief Commissioner

AL has it with Lalor.  During the 70's and 80's its eastern-side platform used as a terminating platform with the line cut off from reconnecting to the main line north of the station.  This was back when Epping was little more than a country town and many trains terminated at Lalor.  Since electrification in 1964, trains have regularly terminated at Keon Park, Thomastown, Lalor, Epping and now South Morang.  Over to AL...

Crying or Very sad I have only recently been introduced to the joys of the Craigieburn line, Glenroy station in particular, and was chuffed that I could nominate a station on the Broady line that could actually fit the clue! Laughing

How about....Sth Kensington?

Ah , the fun of exploring a previously untravelled line / station !

While on holidays in Melbourne last month , I went to Heathcote Junction for the first time
Small point & shoot camera in pocket , I planned to get off the front carriage of a 3 car VLocity which would give me a time to get in position and take a shot as she left

"Heathcote Junction next stop" announced the conductor

Got to the door as we slowed and started pulling into the platform

"Passengers alighting at Heathcote Junction are reminded this is a short platform and should check there is a platform at the door before alighting"   Shocked

Bugger !! What if I had to race into the next car ? Platform going past . C'mon on , stop . More platform passing . Brakes applied

Phew ! Platform available AND there was someone getting on at the same door ! Busy time at the Junction !  Laughing

Anyway .......

Neither Glenroy nor South Kensington

I have never been to Heathcote Junction, but travelling to it sounds like fun! I visited a mate on the Bendigo line recently, (the myki tales of which appear in the Myki thread), and ventured to a station in the same-ish area, Malmsbury. Beautiful station all on its own in the country.

Let's try Hartwell.
