I saw two trams on the route 59, one was advertising extreme shapes in brown livery, while the other one was advertising the 10th book of A dairy of a wimpy kid in red livery.

The first one which is adveristing Extreme Shapes is B2 2055. As for the other one, not sure what that is, that must be a new AOA applied on some other B2, either from Essendon or possibly East Preston.

Really like the idea of art on the trams and not the advertising

Quick question re ad trams.

I notice that Z3 227 was painted in to PTV livery in October but is now an ad tram as of this week.

Is there a reason they would take a tram in new livery and turn it in to ad tram vs using one in the old Yarra Trams which is going to need updating anyway?

The reason that I can think of is, some advertisement contracts might have a compulsory ending date.  For example you might have an AOA tram for a performance.  There is no point keeping it after the show (at least temporarily) ends in Melbourne.

Definitely not new, but I just noticed this over on Trams Downunder...

It's W2 503 in Yarra Trams livery, twenty years before Yarra Trams! Back to the future! Laughing

Now we can all rest and breathe a sigh of relief that YT never painted the Ws white and grey.

The PTV livery is only a bunch of stickers over plain white, no different to the advertising stickers. Also, it gives the other ad trams a chance to finally rid themselves of the dirty old grey and white livery mentioned in my post above, as there are still a few Z3s going around like that. Some trams even have some Met green poking through.

There has long been a superstition of "What do you do with a defective tram?  Paint it!"  Actually painting jobs have likely been scheduled with the same visits to Preston Workshop as some maintenance.  Another common superstition is that the lamp test button activates the tram priority signals.
