BIG grain company Graincorp has thrown its weight behind the campaign to pressure the Victorian Government into upgrading the railway line between Yelta and Melbourne.

Graincorp spokesman Angus Trigg said that if the north-south corridor was converted to standard gauge, a short connector linking Lascelles to the existing standard-gauge line from Hopetoun to Portland, through Murtoa, would be “hugely advantageous”.

Mr Trigg said his company’s ability to freight grain from north-western Victoria to Geelong by rail was critical to keeping its grain exports competitive in international markets.

graincorp now pushing for upgardes to the mildura line and for standardisation.  they claim sg would allow more grain onto rail from the north west and that would be a good thing.

sg would also lead to further or additional containers and other products onto rail to other destinations outside of victoria.

are wagons actually through shunted and consigned in victoria?

Plus access to another port, provided they reopen the Avoca line. They'd have to run around at Ararat, unless they put a triangle in.

Or they need an additional road in Aarat Yard to allow for the runaround which should not be a problem for any operator.
