Some observations from a trip from Seymourm to Ballarrat

Work has commence extending the down platform at Tallarook, they have the concrete platform facing inplace and it looked like base consolidation was taking place for the earthworks.

It looks as though Kilmore east is almost complete, there was a team of workers installing the orange and yellow rubber edge studs.

The Seymour train was its usual 10 minutes late into Southern cross, most of the delay between South Kensington and Southern Cross.

The train to Ballarat what can I say, IT was 12 minutes late leaving due to a delay in getting the second 3 carriage VLocity from the yard, Sat in Bank box loop for twenty minutes waiting for the train from Ballarat. Result 25 minutes late into Ballarat.

Talk about screaming with frustration, I had an appointment in Ballarat I had automaticly assumed the train would be late but did not allow that much time. Lucky the person I was seeing was unsure about the time of the appointment.

They REALLY need to do something about the Ballarat line, I have now been 4 times on the line in the last few years, in two of these trips the train has been more than 20 minutes late due to lack of passing loops (Note 1) The 0914 from Seymour is regularly 10 minutes late but at least its consistent.

Note 1: Over the same period I have been to Bendigo 4 times, I may have been lucky but this train has never been more than a few minutes late.

Location: At the back of the train, quitely doing exactly what you'd expect.

You aren't lucky. I'm a regular traveller on this line and although the trains have been late picking me up, I have hardly ever arrived late.

Copper was stollen from Rockbank for second time in as many weeks over night knocking out signals. Trying to find replacement sets and stepping up trains unfortunately can't happen with a snap of the fingers.

Be thankful your service only ran 25 late. 0806 arrival into Melbourne from Wendouree arrived just shy of 60min late.

Interesting!, there were no delays at Rockbank infact we passed another VLocity there, we also passed a loco hauling I think a H set at Parwan. I did not get a good view as both trains were moving at a reasonable speed so the signals there must have been OK at the time.
Both down  signals on both tracks of Bank Box were red over red and the driver stated were were waiting for the  service from Ballarat. After around a 12 minute delay he said it had just left Ballan and would take 8 minutes to get to the loop.

The distance from Parwan to Bankbox is around 17.4 kilometres, the distance from Bank Box to the points at Bungaree East is 27 kilometres. If there want a loop at Rowsley a loop a little on the down side of Ballan would fix a few issues. There's a levelish straight near the correct distance starting around the 81 kp (just after the large radius curve passed Ballan)  that would seem to be a good spot.
