Hitachi spotting

Here is the footage I captured of it, I was caught off guard and had to run to the train door to film it.

And the photo I took beforehand. In my hurry, I didn't realise the flash was on. You can however see both the first and last car's numbers.

I saw a Hitachi at Newport station on the way to the footy yesterday, from a crowded and last ex Warrnambool train. I imagine it is the one everyone is mentioning above.

I have a video of that same Hitachi going through watergardens at speed from the tour, it's recorded from the platform and isn't a very good angle

Anyone want to see it?

I can confirm that 288M is stabled at Newport.

It's been five years since I took a photo with four Hitachis in it, I didn't think I'd get another chance.

Could metro be holding into the hits his remaining in case of capacity issues ? The government or should I say the planners in the department have never been good at forecasting demand.

I don't get why they can still use them because quiet honestly they're still good trains

You're splitting hairs. They can't be used because they're a thousand years old and their reliability, availability of parts, passenger comfort, etc are not up to the expectations that passengers hold in 2014. I really wish that gunzels would seperate rational thought from mindless dribble. The Hitachis are old, they've run their course, they've had their farewell, they're done.

Don't forget that their re-introduction would be politically embarrassing! Very Happy

Again, that's just why they shouldn't be used. I'll explain the difference:
Shouldn't be used - they are usable, but have features that do not meet current standards
Can't be used - if there's something that actually prevents them from running. I believe that's why MrToastyy made his comment in the first place.
"...because they're a thousand years old..."
I do NOT like this exaggeration, especially when W class trams are still running on routes 30, as well as 78/79 (until Friday). If age really was an issue, they'd only be allowed on the City Circle. Mind you, 845 had its 75th birthday on the 13th of July, and it's one of the green route 30 Ws, compare that to our 42 year old Hitachis
"...passenger comfort..."
They were actually more comfortable, in my opinion, than other trains (especially compared to X'traps, quite embarrassingly)
"I really wish that gunzels would seperate rational thought from mindless dribble."
And I really wish you would not make such comments, as it is an insulting thing to say, as well as a generalisation that all gunzels post rubbish, which is not true. Since I am a person who really loves Hitachis (and I mean REALLY loves Hitachis), you should consider yourself lucky I even said there's any reason why they "shouldn't be used"

Disclaimer: this post is not to suggest that the Hitachis return to service, it is just to clarify my point.

Reliability. If you had any understanding of how trains work, you'd know that older trains are increasingly difficult to source parts for, and when they fall below what is called "minimum standards", there's a risk of them becoming dead in the water. THAT is enough of a reason to sideline them, even with all of your so called "shouldn't be used". I maintain that they cannot be used for those reasons. They're political suicide.

Two words. Air. Conditioning.

I should consider myself lucky? You have just proven my point. You, and all the other "Hitachi lovers" out there continue along in your own little world that the Hitachis are suitable trains for a 21st Century railway in a first world country. There are so called "third world" countries out there running better trains than Melbourne is, and it's an absolute joke. The sooner you people let them die a second natural death the better.

Anything suggesting that they could still be used is pipe dreams from people who fail to see reality.

I like the Hitachi trains too, but they're done. Say goodbye. Get over it. Move on with your life.
