As a parallel to the thread on Inventions that have Come and Gone I have created this thread to highlight the most useless and/or ineffective things created by man.

As a start I will nominate the electric hand dryer (with the single exception of the Dyson models).

No doubt there are heaps of other products and inventions.

When I was a child there was a strange fad for electric can openers, everybody my family knew had one, despite two facts:

* They didn't eat much tinned food anyway.

* They were more awkward to use and much harder to clean than manual can openers.

Needless to say, you never see the things in shops or homes these days.

My family had one, and while I don't think we threw it out, I don't think we used for years and years. You are correct on both your points.

But those all, unlike a DVD rewinder served a useful purpose.
Double Audio cassette machines did a lot to promote piracy of music cassettes.
CD Stackers ......... My FG falcon came with one!

CD stackers fall more under the thread of inventions that have come and gone I think. They were great in their time. Also, good for safety, rather than having to change CD's.
