A new clue comes out of the woodwork, not too contentious I hope!

Despite the great lash-ups, some enthusiasts think that El Zorro ran old locomotives into the ground. But in my opinion, those darn old diesels were just so good to listen too!

Not Kilmany or Ashens or Londrigan.

I really am getting old!

Arnold stands out like a bandaged head, and I managed to miss it twice before you put up the hint.

Yes it was Arnold. Well done Valvegear. I know what its like to have a senior moment or two.

Over to you....

Thankee kindly, sir.

I hope there are not too many senior's moments from this name.

OK - let's re-phrase:-

I hope this person doesn't have too many senior's moments.

I hope this person doesn't have too many senior's moments.

He is a senior citizen.

He is a senior citizen.
Before PC took control we used a different, two-word term to describe this guy.

We called him an old man.

You're not having much luck getting a bite, are you Valvegear? I've not checked in for nearly 3 weeks. But after a good think about your clues, I've surmised that the answer must be Maldon. That being a "confusion" (senior's moment) of Old Man. Wink

Well thank heaven somebody had a go.

B67 has, of course, picked out Maldon as the answer.

B67 now has line clear.

Sorry I didn't check the quiz sooner. Going through your clues in order, I wasn't aware of any stations caller Old Geezer / Codger / Fart, but then that would be exceedingly un-PC. So I was glad you put an end to my dire discombobulation by stating he was an old man.

Yes, that was the next clue in bold. Smile

As the tumbleweeds roll by, I can almost hear the echo of my breathing.

Dire discombobulation

It really is simpler than it may appear. One word is the key to unlocking the other - which becomes the answer.

I'll have a punt with Curdie.

Not Curdie.

Reid? An anagram (discombob-whatsit) of Dire.

Reid is correct.
  duttonbay Minister for Railways

Here we are:

A random or mixed lot

A random or mixed lot
This is actually quite a simple clue. Nothing too devious at all...

It seems pretty simple to me too - yet I've not worked it out. Not helped by the fact that some of the words can mean more than one thing. "A random" can be mixed to make Ardmona, but I'm not aware of a station with that name, so doubt it's the correct answer. But it's better than no answer at all.
