Tailem Bend track plan?

    Location: Chicago, IL
    Does anyone have a track plan for Tailem Bend (ideally 30s-50s era) that they can share?  It appears to be a yard that hasn't been included in the Modelling the Railways of South Australia notes (yet) as best as I can tell from the index and flipping through them.

    For others who may read the thread the general response of going to Inprotrans or the NRM are probably useful but they're both a  bit of a walk for me unfortunately.

    So I'd be looking for an electronic copy that someone could share.

    Contact inprotrans at the old islington workshops - he's the dude who has saved a significant quantity of the old SAR/ANR/AN engineering drawings cabinet. He should have what you're after.

    I don't think any of the plans are still at Islington ,I seem to remember someone saying that when Inprotrans had to get out of Islington the plans well most of them were sent to state or federal archives for storage. The rest were taken to their business on Main North Road a chicken shop I think it was or next door to one anyway! Something along those lines anyway!

    The current yard layout can be found in the ARTC document TA400002 over sheets 5 to 10. If you really get stuck one could have a look at the late Alan Lownsboroughs Adelaide Hills and SE route for MSTS. This MSTS route is modeled in the 1950's and includes the lines to Kaniva in Victoria, Mt Gambier, Willunga and a few others. My impression both from talking to Alan and researching the route he went to great lengths for accuracy.
    Note: In this route the yard layouts for the main area around Adelaide station are actually simplified as Alan ran into a common problem with MSTS of MSTS having problems with more than around 1400 objects per tile.

    David is almost correct.
    When Inprotrans moved, the records at Islington were taken over by the Govt. and are currently being catalogued by their archives dept.
    I understand access can be arranged through the State Archives at Cavan (I believe).
    As part of this deal, I think Mark O'Malley is not supposed/allowed to sell them any more, however a phone call to him at "Refreshing Memories", his business on Main North Road (next to Chicken Chef, at Blair Athol) will soon confirm this.

    And I would also confirm what Woodward said, the late Alan Lownsborough went to great lengths to ensure his MSTS track layouts were very accurate, so you could use his layout as gospel for the 50's era.

    Ian is the contact for these plans now. The information I supplied is current and correct.

    Maybe a little bit more information would be of a general assistance to the uninitiated.
    Who is "Ian"?
    Where is he located?
    Is email the only form of contact?

    I believe the information I offered was correct at the time that Mark left Islington and set up his own business, so I am curious as to what has changed since then.

    I have been in contact with Ian (and Evan it seems) most recently as April this year. Mark passed on my details to the "Islington Plan Project" when I tried to contact him for info back in 2012. Ian (and Evan) are working on behalf of DPTI and are the custodians of the plans now, best that I can tell...

    All I have is the email address. Now you know what I know!
