Replacement buses are now operating between these stations so passengers are advised to allow additional travel time. Passengers can also use their train tickets on local bus services in the affected area. Trains are still running between the city and Chatswood as well as between Gordon and Hornsby. Anyone travelling from the city to Gordon, Pymble, Turramurra, Warrawee, Wahroonga or Waitara is advised to catch a train to Hornsby then another train to their destination. Additionally, Central Coast & Newcastle Line trains are operating via Macquarie Park instead. As a result, passengers catching trains on the T1 Western Line should also allow additional travel time, listen to announcements and check indicator boards.

Where was the derailment near Central? Was it on the Central (i) end of things?

Yes, it was right in front of the Yardmasters office (not the Sydney signal box), and from what I saw it was definitely the whole bogie off the track.

Passengers should allow extra time after earlier power supply repairs to signals following a lightning strike at Sutherland.

Wasn't the half of it. Lightning also hit Waterfall station, popping at least one signal instantly back to red. Our train wasn't scheduled to stop there, but the lightning strike created what we call in the trade a RIFOD (Returned In Face Of Driver) - as in, the driver upon sighting the signal (in this instance the Up Waterfall Starter) to be in the proceed aspect, suddenly saw it change to red. And in spite of wet rails, brought the train to a stop before a SPAD could occur.

Of course we were delayed by the lightning strike at Sutho, and had to "trip" past the Jannali Up Home signal, which was also affected.
