A bit of self deprecation....good for the soul....
Not a loco or rolling stock.......but I thought some of the electronics experts (eg: Aaron and Miktrain) might get a laugh from MY electronics expertise.
The photo shows a dual charging dock I recently built for my 2 NCE throttles. I had to modify the innards of the throttles by adding 2 wires.....from the base of the throttle where the 6 pin plug is, up to the point where the 2 wires are located which go from the battery compartment to the main circuit board.
This charging dock is NOT pretty (pretty f-ugly actually), but guess what??? It works!!!
The small white board in between the 2 throttle mounts, just contains a el cheapo (about $5- posted from HK) voltmeter, a spdt c/o switch and a 10mm red LED. LED indicates that the power is ON, whilst the voltmeter can be switched to either throttle and displays the voltage, regardless of whether the power is on or not. As such, I can load a throttle into the dock (with power off) and get an indication of the batterys' level of charge and then decide if they need to be charged.
For the power supply, I just used a surplus 240v > 12v transformer from an old cordless phone (or similar). 9v would have worked okay too I believe. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d89/roachie01/DSC05674_zpsb4a369e7.jpg
Anyway...I'm one old bloke who doesn't take life too seriously and can always have a laugh at my own expense.
