are patronage figures to and from bairnsdale via train still strong after the initial return? i understand people may be getting a little sick of the service cancellations. there are been long periods when services were not running.
i have also heard the bridge may also be upgraded for an expended freight task originating at bairnsdale.
now living in more in the big smoke, its been a couple of years since i've seen first hand the patronage on the bairnsdale line. When i was watching it, it was not unusual for standing room only by trarlgon on a 4 or 5 car N set. would hate to know how bad it got when they where running 3 car sets for a while.
as for the freight job, there's been talk for probably 10 years or more of more freight out of bairnsdale on rail. Main reson i understood the logs stoped was not so much a supply shortage, but a cost basis. reports at the time had the metro infrustructre operator placing all sorts of barriers, and limitation on paths through the network, as well as costs like a late night charge, making it more expensive to go through the city on the only paths they would make available.
Would be good to see. wont happen.
