Location: GEELONG
Noticed today in the yard at North Geelong(near the overpass) the scrapping of several log wagons & hoppers.
Several workers there today with gas axes & caterpillar excavator with a crushing claw attached to it.
All that is left to see is a large pile of scrap metal! I guess the days of carting logs from Gippsland buy rail to Geelong are well behind us.Crying or Very sad

timber industry is all but dead up this way now thanks to the green groups, so i guess not much need for them now as bugger all logs going that way. could be different in other areas around victoria.

Well people have asked about rail transport of logs. Few problems with that being that logs are usually felled miles from any railhead and usually end up nowhere near a railhead.

And the fact that the siding at Bairnsdale is full of cut timber now, and they dont want to use rail transport.

Probably was the Deni Rice train. Probably easier to get a path via Bendigo today due to the quieter timetable on the V/Line network account of the Cup Day Holiday, I dare say the trip via Bendigo would still be quicker and simpler than via Seymour/ Toolamba.

Open for correction of course.

Impressive get there Michelle12.

Have SSR been contracted to repair the Vlocities? Are Bombardier overstretched with their current workload (E class trams, Adelaide EMUs and new Vlocities)? Or is this something else entirely?
  Michelle12 Moderator Photo Overlord

Location: Melbourne
Thanks, Gman_86. You would naturally assume that Bombardier would be best placed to repair them.

Are these units likely to have been the stock involved in the Altona collision?

Yes, ex Galvin collision. The units are off to Bendigo to be out of the way to be assessed for repair OR possible write-off.

It didn't come through Bendigo on Tuesday night (perhaps a day-off?)

G532-G521 led a loaded Deni rice on the Up through Bendigo at 2130 last night (Nov 5).  A round-trip seems to be the norm these days - Down in the morning via Toolamba, Up via Bendigo in the evening.
