Trainorama..... correspondence via Faecesbook.

A week or two ago I decided to try and help Trainorama with their Public Relations efforts.....

I sent them a personal message (if that is what it is actually called) on FB....it reads as below.......(of course there has been no response):

Can I make a suggestion to you good folk please? I notice that your updates ...both on the web-site and Facebook....are few and far between. I would like to suggest that you would engender a lot of customer good will if you took a few minutes every week or so, to publish an update on how things are going. As an example, many of us are waiting like expectant fathers in a maternity ward, for the long-awaited 48 class models to arrive. I see in AMRM that the first shipment is expected late November. This is not that far away as of today. A quick update as to what vessel the shipment is on and when it is due to dock in Sydney, clear customs etc etc would be much welcomed by a lot of modelers. Other importers/manufacturers do this reasonably well and receive good feedback as a result. Anyway, it's just a thought....you choose as you please. Regards, Bill Roach

I suppose it's the old "if there's no news, there's nothing to post/update on a website"...?

Facebook is too hard to search for information anyhow.

Their website would be a better option.

Can I be the first to say I would rather they spent their efforts on bigger things than letting me know the name of some boat.

I am tracking some equipment right now that's a lot more valuable than a couple of locomotives and FedEx have not given me the flight numbers as it crosses the U.S.

Aaron, the point of Bill's message was that we would like to know some information regarding projected arrival of the models. Merely a matter of keeping the punters posted.

Wolfman, I reckon there must be some news. It would be either the models are on the water expected in December, or sorry there has been another delay and we will not see the 48s until next year. Gotta be one or t'other because all the latest news was before end of this year.

In any case even if there is no meaningful news people still like to see some waffle just to be reassured the supplier is still around.

Out of curiosity Roachie, is that a deliberate misspelling in the subject title????

Some punters might like trivial information, but I am one of the 'punters' too, and as I said, I'd far rather the importers do something non trivial instead.

Aaron,

I know what you mean....

I just think it's a shame (for their company from a marketing point of view) that they aren't taking advantage of the marketing avenues they have at their feet. Love them or hate them, Auscision makes great use of FB and the "punters" love THAT company. They, (Auscision) are forever putting-up pics of their new models, some well-weathered shown on a well-detailed layout, and they receive all sorts of positive feedback from the "punters".

The intention of my message to them on FB was merely to highlight that they could be taking better advantage of the I.T. they have at their fingertips and have the "punters" saying all sorts of nice things about their company too.

As it stands however, the punters are left in the dark to just ponder the never never.

There was an indication in the current issue of AMRM that the models would hit our shores around/by the end of November. That (self-proclaimed) "deadline" has now come and gone with still no word on these long-awaited little Alcos.

I'm old enough not to be bothered by delays in the arrival of such a "trivial" shipment.....but they aren't doing themselves any favours by their deathly silence.

Why bother wasting your breath on trying to help them? They are running a business and
if they think that they don't need to communicate with their current (and potential) customers
then their business will suffer. If they don't know about all the avenues available these days
then they had better open their eyes and have a look at the rapidly changing world around them
and if they choose to ignore it then others will (and already have) filled the needs of the hobby
and they will loose out.

Auscision have mastered the Facebook propaganda tool - and I for one check regularly to see whats happening. The updates regarding models sold out, new tooling, hints about the future and general stuff is an excellent tool to staying in touch.

Trainorama unfortunately have been left behind in this department - not sure why as its a great way to keep information flowing. Considering they are in a well positioned spot to milk their 48 class release, there is hardly anything around to tell you whats happening. For all the research, costs and potential sales - you think it would be a wise move to want to advertise as much as possible?!

Considering the amount of stock and releases they have, there would be plenty of updates that could be posted.
Updates on possible reruns, replacement axles, 48 class shots, wagons , instore specials amongst other stuff.....

Anyway, its not my business and they can run it whichever way they want..

There quite possibly be, but if there's not, then there's not Laughing And don't forget, every news update gets a torrential downpour of emails, phonecalls and communication to deal with afterwards. May as well have everything ready to go, put out the news with no doubts in it, then have to deal with the flood of "what about this" "where's my X loco"? type of communication.

But yes, it would be good to know snippets, if there's a few minor updates (same thing with the GMs - I was keen to see where they were at, like everyone else!) Saying that, if they're working hard on finalising the actual models, sorting shipment/customs/transport from the factory and to the warehouse etc - then it makes more sense to do that.

I know they're separate entities, essentially, but the shop is still there, is anyone wandering past any time soon? May as well get it direct from the source! Very Happy

From what I see even Auscision is light on news regarding some things. From what I see happening with them is more to keep a flow affect going, which includes almost constant announcements of this & that, & then in many cases long waits for several items, & often not a lot of news about them either. Perhaps the other scramblings on FB is designed to keep out the questions regarding news of some of their long awaited models.

What real news has come from Eureka, often different in the AMRM to whats on their web & blog site, Austraisn has said some things but reports are different.  In fact Eureka was the inventor of the saying, "there is no news" end of story, even with the 40cl as the latest AMRM says they are trying to gather the bits to be sent to the new assembly factory (my take on what was said but pretty close)

TOR has said they were expecting or hopping for the first run arrivals by late November early December, & I think they too are wanting them here yesterday, the latest item regarding them is dated 9th October with the following The first phase of the production run is to be delivered in two shipments, the first being due for release near the end of 2014.

While very much dissapointing as to not hearing anything more, again I don't believe they are worse than any of the others either.

Which makes me wonder whether TOR are the only one out of them all that are called into question at the moment.  A good place to start maybe is to list out all the models still to be delivered from all the importers & when they were announced just to see the order of their arrivals listed against intent.
