Australia's rail safety watchdog has found that Melbourne's railway tracks are being safely maintained after a federal MP raised allegations in parliament that shoddy maintenance by rail operator Metro was putting public safety at risk.

you would cover your butt too if you had to make a public statement about rail lines when you have not had adequate time to review the worthiness of the network.  it is important the public feel safe about using the network otherwise this will lead to further issues of confidence.

I don't know if they are safe or not but some stretches of rail are certainly not of acceptable quality. Sometimes the train is shaking so violently from side to side you feel like it's going to come off the track.
