Nice pics Graham!

So, is that a power car and 4 sitting cars then? No baggage car? I would have thought one sitting car would be plenty (sadly).

Thanks Graham.

I think I read in another thread that the first car is a crew car and the three similar ones are for passengers. As the train rolled by at Willowburn station I saw passengers in the one adjacent to the crew car and the other two had their venetian blinds almost closed and no lights on as though empty. I didn't notice which car the passenger alighted from at Oakey as I was above the other side of the train then.

Sadly I suspect the current arrangement is just biding time until either a replacement railcar can be built OR the Westie is cancelled permanently in favour of rubber tyred options...

Could the lower passenger numbers be attributed to the time of year ?

Re the replacement railcar ... I understand that idea was canvassed a couple of years back and the idea was not pursued due to cost.

Here's hoping the train lasts a little longer yet. Hoping to film it in just a few weeks before it goes away forever.

The months following a State election will be the danger period - whichever party wins.

Lower than what? The appalling timetabling of the service ensures that very few passengers use the service. My understanding is that 20 passengers is a good number...

With the ALP poised to re-enter George St, will the Westie have any chance of regaining its sleeper cars?

Very much unlikely

ALP order a CTT to replace the aging sleepers on the Sunlander, they previously chose NOT to order new sleepers for the Westie and Inlander. Just like they pushed the freight that previously used the outer section of the Western line onto trucks.

I agree with Graham the timetable is lower than poor, however I doubt any timetable would turn this service into a viable tourist train/CSO operation. SOTO has not suffered the same as the Westie/Inlander, yet from my own regular observation since it was introduced in the early 90's and like the Sunlander has suffered a large amount of patronage loss in the 10 years leading up to 2009.

Personally I doubt the Westie will enter the New Year as with 20 people per service this is very difficult to justify when the budget is so tight and they want to increase teachers.
