I'm old enough to remember platforms 1 and 2 at Wynyard.If you walk the Wynyard 'paid area' concourse from the lift end in the direction of Town Hall, as you pass stairs leading to P3/4 on your right, you will see the steelwork that was intended to be the stairs to P1/2 on your left (remembering it was to be another railway platform). I assume most of the P1/2 stairs were somehow blocked off, as only the second stairs from the northern end (as correctly noted above) was fenced off from the 'paid area' concourse and only accessible via a special "TRAMS" ticket gate from the 'public area' concourse.
There was a wooden fence separating the tram area from the train area but you could watch the trams from platform 3.
