Potential HBMRC Oz32 entrant

Well as other Rod/comtrain suggestion sunk in from the exhibition thread, I contemplated something, smaller, easier to transport. It's still four foot long, but it's mainly two foot wide or 2.4 metres by 0.6 metres for the imperial impaired.

The yellow section of trackwork even currently exists - though there's a piece of setrack(ST-203) between the three-way and the RH turnout - it's my play in the house/fiddle yard module.

However, it's the blue section that's stumping me, what I've temped there is a Peco ST245, a SL87 didn't work and a fast tracks curved turnout #6 24"/18" might. The pencil line curve is probably the track centre to follow and a curved turnout around there might be the wrong thing to use.

And playing with thumbtacked flex track only mildly helped.

And some progress. To me it appears like going from this:

To this:

Is rather difficult. One thing down, many more things to go.

And I've now got an overfed T-Track module.......

Well, I get one thread down and the ball of spaghetti's barely touched.  The frames done, the track works.

If I go all switch machines it means doing this:

Which is not feasible for the 3-way and it's not that dissimilar from what'd be needed if I went all solenoid.

Somehow, I don't think half of what I'd nutted out for scenery is going to work as I expect it to, especially trying to place a grain silo around point B let alone at A.

Well done!!    That looks like a way to go. And it should have entertained you heaps by the time you get to enter it Smile
Wish I had time to enter one, but I am better off slogging along on Hobsons Bay North Wink
Cheers

I emailed hobsonsoz32@gmail.com and last week I received their information pack. I'd thought that it would be on their website by now, but it isn't (same with how to access their clubroom, it can't be via Melbourne steel terminal).

Yes, most of the fun now is on how to scenic and control it. I've a few thoughts, most of them no doubt wrong due to misinterpreting the amount of room certain structures and facilities take up. Certain off the shelf kits will need modifying in order to fit. I was also surprised to find a VR goods shed kit that I like the end result of coming from the US, as I'm finding the Blue and Gold one rather trying in assembling.
The only other local makers of a 50' foot VR goods shed kit I've seen are Outback Models Co. or Ian Lindsay/BGM unless Ian Wilson's done one?

I'll probably make this an all Cobalt switch machine layout. Though those new Railcrew ones from Rapido do look interesting with the functional switch stands, I think I'll contemplate using them for my bigger layout. It'll be DCC of cause, so at some point I'll need to get a second NCE PCP panel.

I've also thought of a station/layout name: Meyerdorf, Meyerdörflich or something like that.

The only thing I've done recently is a foam and plaster hill;

Still thinking on the rocks, I probably need to cast up a batch to choose from and apply a coat of something to even out the contours some more.

Plus I'm beginning to think the 3-way's bad juju and this is probably the better arrangement;

Still have some things that are puzzling me which mainly boil down to landscaping and how to get rollingstock on and off.

Right an update. Now obviously the product of my work did not make an appearance at the Hobson Bay show. I got to this stage of the planning rethink and then lost all my drive whilst trying to motorise the points with Cobalts, deciding on where the power feeds go and working out the fiddle yard.

I've put that aside to revisit at another time and considering what what I saw of the only entrant, I now realise that I was somewhat ambitious in what I could do.

If the completion is on again for 2017, I've got an idea for my possible entry.

It came about due to having a quantity of Kato unitrack at hand and two assembled out of spec T-Trak HO modules with no firm plan on what I was do with and has now progressed to something that functions, resulting in thoughts on scenery.
