This could be the perfect opportunity to replace Central with a new, fresh, modern building. I think people are a bit sick of the old fashioned thing that's there now. Melbourne with its Southern Cross is just putting Sydney to shame. Something like the Wuhan Station in China, or Europe's St. Exupery would be ice.

The fire didn't exactly gut the building.

Are there any reports of damage? From pictures I've seen posted on news sites, it doesn't appear to be major.

Southern Cross may be elegant and is certainly better than the series of tin sheds prior to the 1960s and also the mundane structure that replaced them.

Sadly Southern Cross needs to:

  1. Extend the roof further along the platforms
  2. Install some decent lighting
  3. Get rid of the reek of diesel fumes.

But it is a lot better than many stations (like Flinders Street for example)

Hello everyone,

Has the fast food area that was damaged by the fire in September been repaired and re-opened?

Hungry Jacks just doesn't want to go in and clean up.  I invite you to imagine what that kitchen is like right now, given that the place was evacuated with food exposed, not to mention the fetid oil that has been sitting in the fryer, and the curdled ingredients (whatever they might consist of) in the shake and sundae machines.  Needs a HazMat Crew, not a return to business.

Is that correct? That Hungry Jack has simply walked away? Sydney Trains would, I think, have something to say about that.

In my experience, Hungry Jacks food needs a hazmat crew when it's still fresh!
