Hopefully this is a good omen for weekend services on the line in the new year.
It was linked on the home page until yesterday. They were keeping it a secret from those who think that AdMet/DPTI have the personal contact details of everyone who thinks they might like to use the service, and hence refuses to seek or read info for themselves.
Posting it multiple times on their Facebook page hardly counts as keeping it a secret either.
I do think that the Tonsley line is a great opportunity for major event transport, although probably not so much for normal weekend public transport. They tried doing this with some routes on the Gawler line in 2014, but the services were barely utilised and they were scrapped for 2015.
In addition to the 890 spaces at the park and ride, it would present a better trip into the city if the various Adelaide Oval Express services from Aberfoyle Park and the Reynella-Woodcroft area became rail feeder services. On the inbound trips, they are already full well before getting to Bedford Park at the bottom of the hill, and fewer buses would be needed if they could empty out at Tonsley before resuming to pick up passengers along the inner suburban segments of South Road and Goodwood Road.
I do think that the Tonsley line is a great opportunity for major event transport, although probably not so much for normal weekend public transport. As someone who worked at Mitsubishi briefly as a casual in the 1990's I was interested to see what it's been transformed into - a large TAFE Campus under the auspices of Flinders University. I can't imagine that there would be a huge demand for a train service there on weekends?
The TAFE SA campus is 'under the auspices' of TAFE SA, and is separate from the Flinders Uni building. There are also a bunch of private sector businesses there (Siemens is the largest) and the northern part of the precinct will have some housing when it is completed.I do think that the Tonsley line is a great opportunity for major event transport, although probably not so much for normal weekend public transport. As someone who worked at Mitsubishi briefly as a casual in the 1990's I was interested to see what it's been transformed into - a large TAFE Campus under the auspices of Flinders University.
