Remote Control Systems Unit - Need Help

  CaptainKman Beginner

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a RCS unit from a deceased estate sale and I'm after help with connecting it to my model railway.

My local Club has the same unit but no-one there could tell me exactly how it is set up....

Here are links to a front and back image of the unit.

Please excuse all the rubbish on the layout - it's definitely a work in progress!

Thank you in advance for any help that can be given.

Kieran.

Remote Controlled Systems are still trading. Why not contact them for assistance?

They could probably send you a copy of the instructions for that particular unit.

It is an older unit, I have seen them around before.

Thanks for your reply.

I wasn't sure if it was the same company - the logo is different and I can see no mention of this kind of unit or controller.

I'll send them an e-mail and see what they have to say.

Thank you. Smile

Looks like it has been modified. Maybe the white lead mirrors the terminals on the outside. Just hook it up to the 4 screw terminals as labelled, don't plug in the phone plug.  An AC input between 14V and 21V  (Leads can go any way around), and the other two to the track.  They are also not polarity sensitive.

Hi, Bob (and others who are reading),

I managed to e-mail RCS and got a reply from Tony Walsham. After sending him some photographs of the inside of the unit, he informed me that there is no RX mounted inside the case, so the unit will not work as-is.

He also told me that only a handful were made (as opposed to 100s of the 'regular' version). Sad

He gave me a description of the part that is missing:
"It will a black box about twice the size of cigarette packet with a 4 wire telephone cable coming out one end. That will plug into the cable joiner coming from the base unit."

So, now I am wondering, does anyone here have one of these parts that they would sell, or perhaps someone who has another unit would be interested in a swap?

Thank you for the assistance so far.

Kieran,

I have a complete and working set 400 RC (much like yours but without the case) It has the same remote with adjustable braking and momentum and the instructions. It has served me well but now that I'm into DCC it seldom gets used.

For the right price (plus postage at cost) I would let this go to a new home.

PM me if you are interested.

Tony
