Argentina sinks a Chinese fishing boat

  Carnot Minister for Railways

At least the Argentinians had the guts to deal with illegal fishing boats in a gutsy way.

If it was in Australian waters I'm guessing we wouldn't have done anything...

China is now aware there is at least one country who will not put up with chinese poachers.

Does Australia really have an issue with Chinese FFV's?

Such a communist. Let's hope next time China doesn't intentionally fish (and try to ram coast guard vessels) in waters exclusive to some other nation, EVERY TIME.

It's a military/customs brevity code for Foreign Fishing Vessel.

There is also SIEV for Suspected Illegal Entry Vessel.

Before old bingley starts foaming at the mouth again, someone needs to tell him - if you fish illegally in a country's territorial waters, are apprehended by one of that country's authorities, and then try to ram the authority's vessel, you get what's coming to you. Here endeth the lesson.

End of lesson for that vessel, and crew. Sure the Chinese have a huge fishing fleet.

Recurring lessons?

Depends on the price (we go cheap Mad )
Re those communist, reds tags (see Godwin's Law/WTF), in case people haven't been paying attention since the mid 1970's, it's only poor communists we have a problem with.

The line about the 'red' boat relates to Valvegear's 'outrage' in a thread in the Preservation forum. Nothing to do with Godwin.

I must admit that sinking a Chinese boat is a brave thing for the Argentineans, here's hoping China doesn't hold grudges...

I wonder if the Chinese navy is larger than the English navy? Wink

Carefull here the Royal Navy STILL have a commisioned ship of the line that has wipped the french once already (HMS Victory in the Battle of Trafalgar). ie HMS Victory is still a Royal Naval ship. Wink

Its a bit hard to say how much bigger the People's Liberation Army Navy (Chinsese Navy) as the two navies are not the same. The PLAN still having good support for amphibious landings, but it would be between 6 to 10 times bigger

Post Script: The British are still regarded as having some of the best trained troops, Army, Navy and Airforce in the world, capable of fighting well above there weight.

I've been under the impression that the PLAN has a relatively small and incapable amphibious force, which is why the US and Taiwan never get too seriously concerned about their regular sabre-rattling.

I'm sure that the French contingency plans for a war with the Brits include that on the target list, especially as there's an equal measure of better-than-the-Germans bonus points given the Luftwaffe's failed attempt.

Or at least they could turn off the electricity to the area, now they own much of the UK's power network and also sell power to the UK via under-sea cables, and stop some of the trains serving Portsmouth that are operated by a SNCF subsidiary.

Morale is very low though, and they are having the same sort of equipment issues which used to be all we saw about the ADF in the media (e.g. soldiers buying their own boots) as well as a great deal of uncertainty over funding cuts.
