Doesn't upset me - on the contrary.  However ....

"The Overland runs between Melbourne and Adelaide, and provides a vital transport link for communities in Western Victoria including Ararat, Stawell, Horsham, Nhill and Bordertown."

I knew there was a disputed border long ago, whereby Victoria grabbed a slice of what SA thought was theirs, but the last time I looked, Bordertown was in SA.  Do they mean Serviceton?

Probably not as the Overland does not stop at Serviceton, likely to be just some lazy person from the press could not be bothered to separate Vic and SA.

Does anyone else think that the cost of running The Overland seems a little excessive? Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but $10.35m to continue the service for a further 2.5 years is 524 trips at the current service level of 2 services per week in each direction (assuming a service also runs on Tuesday January 1, 2019 to return the train and crew back to SA). This works out to be a subsidiary of $19,751.90 per service...

Only indirectly through pensioner concessions.

It is called Politics.
Most people reading the news release would not realise the Federal Government did not subsidise the running of the Overland directly but as stated the Pensioner discount stops in January 2017.
Reads well for the Victorian Minister of Transport but may not help Her when asking for funding for the Metro.
What goes around comes around.

Must be an election  coming.

I just wish they'd keep the funding for Red Class on the Indian Pacific and The Ghan.
