As a trainspotter, an EMD or two would be a welcome change for the Ghan. It's just so boring these days with nr's, 6000's, gwu's dominating.

Never seen 6000's or GWU's on the Ghan, but then PN DO have the contract!

I was referring to other movements as well (Aurizon & GWA intermodals) that run in SA.

I wonder if there will be a time in the near future where GSR will dump PN as loco & crew provider & decide to use their own locos & drivers?

Doubtful as they would have done the exercise before and found that contracting out is a lot cheaper.

I'll be very surprised if these longer Ghans continue after June 30 given the Red Service will be no more.

Rhys. check the consist list I posted on 13th march 2016
You notice that the Red class accounts for a massive total of only two carriages

But then as the train is powered by your favourite boring locos, why would you even care?

Oops, my bad. It is an impressive number (of overall carriages) in which there's hardly any Red Service carriages on that train.

The usual Ghan (and IP) consists only have one CDF (café car) and one sit up carriage (AG or BG), on a very few rare occasions there may be two sit ups.
