NR75 NR74 with a Double consist of 27 carriages including 2 Red Sit Up carriages
8050 doing a stint as terminal shunter
I was referring to other movements as well (Aurizon & GWA intermodals) that run in SA.Doubtful as they would have done the exercise before and found that contracting out is a lot cheaper.
I wonder if there will be a time in the near future where GSR will dump PN as loco & crew provider & decide to use their own locos & drivers?
I'll be very surprised if these longer Ghans continue after June 30 given the Red Service will be no more.I think you may be on the money with the statement made there , I have had said to me of a full paying Pax who has done them all many times with relatives , just come home from doing a Darwin then to Sydney and now said he has done his last on these trains for many reasons and some . and he did it all just a few weeks back was the most dreadful Journey he has ever done ?? BLAH BLAH ............ thats all I know Shame really, shame

Oops, my bad. It is an impressive number (of overall carriages) in which there's hardly any Red Service carriages on that train. The usual Ghan (and IP) consists only have one CDF (café car) and one sit up carriage (AG or BG), on a very few rare occasions there may be two sit ups.
