    1AD8  ex APT 36 minutes late at 12:51pm today, Sunday 28th (see below**)

    NR109 NR74 with triple consist of 37 carriages (a full motorail carriage has reappeared in the consist - see below*)

    8050 still as terminal shunter

    *{it now seems they have found enough room at Manguri for the motorail to be included in the consist! - see post of 31st July 2016 on previous page}

    ** {The late departure was the result of an air leak - eventually tracked down to the drain cock on a BRJ air tank left open!}

    Incidentally NR75 was 2nd loco on 5PM5 through Mt. Lofty earlier today (09:19) and NR74 was 2nd loco on 6MP5 through Mt. Lofty at 08:00 yesterday

    The exact same consist as last week besides the change out of the first Power van (HGM317 out, HGM904 in)

    Hey Tony what is the length this  train can legally move ex Adelaide and from Drw and Alice , as when it came back yesterday (24/09/16) I am advised  39 cars .. ?? is this Possible  and if so where would they have got the extra ... a big ask I know but as I had relatives on it , they was told on several occasions the number of cars ex Alice , but would it not foul the siding they was in as they are only about 1800 metre's ................... CONFUSED

    G'day phower,
    When GSR quote a train length they include the locos, so for a consist of 36 carriages and 2 locos they say it's a 38 car train  
    It has been know to convey carriages to Port Augusta on occasions

    Because of line closure due flooding the Adelaide bound Ghan 4DA8 was terminated at Port Augusta on Saturday.

    Todays Ghan (1XD8 ???) will depart from there today. (safe to assume the consist will be as last week's)

    A fleet of Buses and Limo's where at APT this morning to ferry passengers to Port Augusta

    Motorail has returned to the Ghan as the Expedition Ghan (4 day Darwin to Adelaide) has ceased for the year.
    This signals the end of the 'Peak' tourist season for the Top End

    Thanks Pressman.   Good to see that even on the "shoulder" period between peak and low season that The Ghan is running at 31 cars.  Spoke to friends who recently completed a Adelaide to Darwin by Ghan, WA road trip and then Indian Pacific to Adelaide trip.  They have been regular customers over the years.  Their feedback is they like the revisions in 0n-board service, Outback lounge and the dine anytime style of service now provided.   They said feedback from others they spoke was very very encouraging.

    This is the last Sunday Ghan report from me for this year as work commitments will see me in country NSW and country Victoria for the next two Sundays (at least!).
    Also note that the Ghan will not operate between 18th December and 8th January, by which time I'll be off working in Western Australia!

So I get the chance to see some of the Hunter Coal train and some action on the Sydney-Melbourne line and a few snippets in between (if I'm lucky!)

    That's exactly what happened when the rail lines was closed in October.
    A Platinum fare also included Limo transfers in Darwin and Adelaide.
