Looks like two 14 class Helga's come to grief when the track has been washed away north of Cootamundra.

And to clarify this is north of Cootamundra on the cross-country line to Forbes and Parkes. The main south line north to Harden etc is not affected.

Will east and west services run via the blue mountains until further notice or will they come via Albiry ?

Is the line open in Sth Australia?  If not, then it can only be the Blue Mountains!!

Dam at the Manildra's Cootamundra meatworks failed. It's located not far out of town between Coota West and Stockinbingal. Main South is unaffected. Tops off a sh#ty 24 hours.

Can trains which normally use the cross country line use the blue mountains without an extra loco's or shortening the train?

Quite busy around Tottenham with 4NY3 locos heading into Melbourne the train left at Brooklyn, CSR006 sitting at Sims Street Junction light engine waiting line clear and MC2 is at the western end of Tottenham Yard waiting for the line with NR32 and NR91 and probably an 82 class.

I have no idea now what the length/Loads are between Parkes and Penrith now but years ago they did a trial with the Indian Pacific using one engine only (penny pinching exercise) and apart from losing 30 minutes between Parkes and Lithgow, it was 'touch and go' it didnt fail on a couple of the grades it encountered.
Even the XPT running with only one power car loses time once it gets East of Orange.
I would doubt a normal East Bound Freight with the minimum number of engines required between Parkes and Sydney via the South could run past Lithgow without assistance.
And dont forget going Downhill from Katoomba needs both the mass and braking power of the Locomotives just as much as it needs their power going Uphill.

Yesterday (friday) the Helga's and train were stabled at Stockinbingal and a Sydney bound PS service was heading to Coota so all fixed methinks.

They seem to be able to make quick work out of repairs.
