A GLink tram was derailed today after it was struck by a fire engine near Q1.

(note: the article mentions the tram's conductor was injured - Gold Coast trams don't have conductors, must have been the driver or possibly a ticket inspector). There was a tram going Northbound at the time which had to be stopped as the derailed tram was fouling the tracks, the driver of that tram satyed in their cab for the whole time.  I saw most of the rerailing process, photos to come.

Thanks, am adding more photos to the album.  Fell free to post any here you think are worthwhile.  It took a long time for them to raise the tram, once they did that the re-railing went smoothly (apart from the generator running out of fuel).

In Melbourne, with only one bogie derailed, don't they try to drive the tram back onto the tracks first ?. If that works, (and generally the wayward bogie will go back the way it came) it's all over and done much quicker and they can get onto checking the tracks and getting things back running more quickly.

They did say this was the first time a gold tram tram has derailed. Maybe that's not in the ruule book up here.  The crews seemed to look a bit puzzled at first, but once things got going it all seemed to run well.  I'm not sure if the tram ran back to the depot under it's own power, the undamage drivers cab was in the right direction for this to happen.

Glad you included images of the rerailing jacking and thanks for all the rest of the images plus the interesting write up SmileSmile  I was part of a group tour (Light Railway Research Society of Australia) through the G-Link Southport depot last month and G-Link highlighted that they are prepared for any event.

I seem to recall that before they opened, the crews did a few practice runs of jacking and slewing a tram out in the streets and presumably they do a practice run in the depot every now and then to make sure all the equipment works and everyone still knows their place in the operation.
