Additionally , the current Federal Government does not like any Infrastructure Project of the Victorian State Labour Government Full Stop, so why should this be a surprise ?
The reality is most adult voters drive a car , and even a lot of railway workers drive to work instead of using public transport , despite most of them having an EFTA ( Employee Free Travel Authority ) . In my years as a Union Rep , car parking upset more people than any other issue , including pay ! ( I endured a forty five minute , non stop rant from one coworker on the car park issue going home one night . I made sure I never went home on the train with him again. )
As parking , for space reasons , is always restricted , I suggested a car sharing roster on the basis that there will never be enough space for everyone to drive and park at work , especially in the city . As there was no other practical alternative , an informal arrangements were thereafter entered into .
We even had a tenant moan about her car park space being used by someone else on a weekend , she made a really big deal about it . On a weekend about 80% of the underground security car park was empty , so it was not as if she had to park on the street . Her spot was on the long side wall and on the day in question , I know because I got a lift home that particular Saturday , she had a choice of at least a dozen other spots .
This explains why cars and roads get political attention , it is multiple , noisy , squeeze wheels . On another posting on this site a local Federal MP spent a lot of time getting a Bus Lane abolished , obviously schools and hospitals were too complex for this bloke , and had a big photo and article in local papers ( plural ) over his great victory in abolishing a Bus Lane .
So on that basis , best of luck trying to kill of a freeway.
